A warning from the lawyer representing the unjustly fired Oklahoma TA! Beware of GFM scams: her client is NOT crowdfunding at this time.
Please be aware of possible scams! My client, Mel Curth, is not seeking any donations at this time. She is grateful for your support and instead requests folks that want to help to donate to the local organizations of your choice!

Seen so many academics who fought for one thing and then immediately turned around and did everything they once fought against the moment they got to be in position of power, and they always did so with that “you don’t have my insider knowledge to know what you are talking about” smirk
"the [CSU] system’s funding model says ideal tenure density is around 54%, according to Sueyoshi....“Our aim is to lower tenure density so that we can hire lecturers for classes that students need in high-demand programs,” Sueyoshi said."

In 2001 the CA state leg set target of *75%* tenure density

Reading the statement from OU. I’m so sick of this “how to think” vs “what to think” pseudo-intellectual distinction. If u end up concluding that their earth is flat or is a dome on a giant turtle, you do not know how to think…

My sense is that many ppl r just too eager to fall for nostalgia and want to recreate their grad school experience at their teaching job regardless of fit. So I don’t think it’s a false assumption, it’s a bit of self centered wishful thinking
A mistake a lot of people who take up teaching at universities make is to start with the assumption that their students should be just like they were as students but without the defects. Better concentration, better at deadlines at deadlines. But to get a teaching job you were 1 in a 100 or 1000.

The White House has been caught.

The administration inserted a photo of Bill Clinton, Michael Jackson, and Diana Ross into the Epstein files and falsely implied it showed them with victims.

In reality, it’s a publicly available fundraiser photo featuring Jackson and Ross’s own children.

It’s the “season of love and giving”…but this year, doesn’t it seem more like a “season of fear and taking”? Like many of you, I’ve been saddened by the human impact of draconian government budget cuts and how angry many housed Americans are at unhoused Americans.

Dug out photos for a party. Turns out I only have 2 photos of myself pre-20. I was immature as teenager & had extremely low self-esteem about my looks & never kept any photos. I still feel insecure but it no longer affects me like it did & I truly regret those years of insecurity

They always think they r owed a conversation, and act shocked like they cannot imagine anything worse than being denied one, it’s like no matter what they do and how bad u think it is, u should AT LEAST be willing to have a conversation

The real hero is a fruit stand owner named Ahmed el Ahmed.

ICE stormed a residence hall at Augsburg University, detained an undergrad, and aimed rifles at students and staff then admitted they had no warrant to be on campus.

This is state violence. This is terror. And this is exactly what Trump’s America unleashes on our communities.

in psych, whole subfields have decided to simply skirt the issue, so the causal inference happens in the introduction of the next paper that cites the "totally-not-causal-I-swear" paper and of course absolutely interprets it causally 🥲
The Taboo Against Explicit Causal Inference in Nonexperimental Psychology - Michael P. Grosz, Julia M. Rohrer, Felix Thoemmes, 2020
Causal inference is a central goal of research. However, most psychologists refrain from explicitly addressing causal research questions and avoid drawing causa...

"...mega-donors' influence doesn't primarily come from their ability to sway voters... Instead, their leverage comes from convincing politicians that they need mega-donor money to win."
Study after study shows campaign ads barely move the needle. So where does money’s real power come from? I ranked the five ways money corrupts politics—from least to most corrosive. What I’ve learned from 15 years of tracking political money:
Money Doesn't Buy Elections. It Does Something Worse.
Campaign ads barely move the needle. The real influence is hiding in plain sight.
