The NYT was cited in the Supreme Court ruling used to strip trans people of healthcare. This is EXACTLY WHY the “just asking questions” crowd of centrist edgelord journalists are dangerous. They launder transphobia through faux neutral “debate” and act like it’s intellectual curiosity

I think it's so insidious to imply that everyone is using it as if it's weird or wrong to not be using it. It lowers the barrier for consideration from people who feel like they have to keep "with the times."
i just find this so bizarre. searching through texts and doing the reading for myself is how i actually think through ideas! trying to put together a sentence is how i figure out what i actually want to say!

How many times did we fucking tell you. You gave up on wearing masks. You let them demonize masks. So they got to write the rules. And the rules are cops “discretion” is that disabled people should be arrested. Because when ableds get to decide who is actually disabled, we lose. Every time.

sure deploying troops to blue states to violently crack down on dissent, issue arbitrary curfews, abduct innocent people off the streets, attack elected officials and make their economies scream looks bad. obviously. but how else do we get these people to stop sympathizing with hamas

When a cabinet member announces "We are using the military to liberate an American city from its elected leaders," where do you go from there. What is left to say. The idea of that being anything short of a near-universal "Wait, what the fuck is going on" moment proves how far we've backslid.

real props to Padilla for everything he did today, this is exactly the kind of confrontation we need to see more of and the optics are fucking terrible for the Trump goons

hasn't always been my favorite Senator but credit where credit is due, I hope others see this as a model
Padilla: If this is how DHS responds to a senator with a question you can only imagine what they're doing to farm workers, to cooks, to day laborers out in the Los Angeles community and throughout California.

If they're willing to assault and tackle a sitting US senator in front of national media, what do you think they're doing to immigrants in detention centers?
June 12, 2025 at 8:44 PM
Sounds like they’re colonizing their own territory
Kristi Noem: "We are not going away. We are staying here to liberate the city from the socialists and the burdensome leadership that this governor and that this mayor have placed on this country and what they have tried to insert into the city."

Sen. Alex Padilla is then forcibly removed!

I’m reading this fantastic piece by Jonathon Sturgeon in Harper’s.

I now have a fair amount of experience with Louisville. He captures many of its stunning nuances. Nowhere has felt closer to slavery to me. Not richmond (which was the leader until now). Not MS.

People do this in healthcare and it always irritates me. “Look at that patient. They sit there with an iPhone but say they can’t afford their medications?” Buddy, you are mad at the wrong thing.
Never take seriously those who ridicule low income people for having a smartphone or laptop.

“If they’re so poor how did they buy an iPhone???”

Because they’re trying to escape poverty, not the 1700s, genius. If you think basic tech access is unnecessary or a luxury, survive a month without it.

DON’T LET THE GOVT PROPAGANDA FOOL YOU

There are more Christian Zionists in the US alone then there are Jews in the entire world. THAT is where the Zionist power is in this country. CHRISTIAN EVANGELICALS! They’re just throwing the Jews out in front of the public billets.

Same. I share this deeply.
Just sending a hug out to my fellow chronically ills and disableds.

The world is so hard to live in and so actively cruel and violent to us.

I want you to know I love you and see you and am so grateful for the community you’ve given me. At least we have each other.

I'm somewhat peeved by people misusing the term sundowning in regards to Trump and his mental health. Sundowning is where a person with dementia becomes agitated and irritable when the sun goes down. Not someone doing weird things when they are at the end of life.

I'm finding myself more and more unable to use google in general. If I scroll past, there's usually shopping results or tons of ads. I end up clicking the links in the summary to find any sources of information at all..
When I use Google now I just automatically scroll past the AI summaries like they’re banner ads
This is really important. Do NOT use the AI summaries at the top of google searches. Ignore them. This is especially important if you don't have any prior knowledge about the topic, but also a good general rule.

Search sources, scrutinize them carefully and double-check with other sources.
