Finally we can emotionally understand what it was like to live in an absolutist monarchy, where everyone had to constantly obsess over the emotional state of fundamentally flawed, narcissistic individuals, because they decided the fate of the world.

Truly the most gutless group of politicians to ever run Australia. Not a spine among them. Not a word of dissent or debate in literally years.
Now they're silent Trump cheerleaders and genocide supporters...

A single observation that explains both our vulnerability to generative AI and the general phenomenon of billionaires.
people are not built for having an evil genie whispering in their ear about how amazing and perfect they are and confirming every bias they ever had, to say nothing of the constant vigilance for lies and misinformation
basically if you do not have an extremely resilient sense of self/theory of mind and a strong willingness to repeatedly impose behavioral rules on the agent, extended interaction with the free tier of chatgpt is designed to make you psychotic. its psycho-affectively akin to licking a car battery

They're really trying to WMD our butts into supporting the mass-murders of countless more brown people in the Middle East again.

I wouldn't accept this type of hackneyed recycled bullshit from my entertainment, why would I accept it from my political propaganda?

Perhaps Tim Wilson can tell us how much the Liberal Party spent on his campaign, and how big were the cheques that Advance, Australians for Prosperity and other Atlas and Liberal-aligned organisations cashed on his behalf to shoehorn him back into Goldstein?

Scientists have linked fossil fuel companies to specific climate harms for the first time, with five Australian oil, gas and coal companies potentially responsible for $900bn in loss and damage from extreme heat alone.

Latest from me in The Guardian this morning.

US researchers link BHP, Rio Tinto, Santos, Whitehaven Coal and Woodside Energy to specific climate harms over three decades

Every now again it’s useful to repeat advice about accessing papers that are behind a paywall that excludes you. Email the author. My estimate is that 90% of academics are so thrilled that a living, breathing, possibly even reading, person shows interest that they will swiftly send you a copy.

Oh dear - Labor is going to learn all the wrong lessons here - this is not an endorsement of small target government with minimal vision or ambition - its largely an anti-Trump-like vote combined with a political system that punishes parties for becoming too extreme.

If you want *genuine* positive progress for the environment & climate (why wouldn't you?), then you can vote for that, by voting Greens/Teals/sensible Independents. Preferential voting means *no vote is wasted*.

And Ted O'Briend's number that power bills have gone up $1,300 (nope more like $500-$600).

Okay so I get that RFK Jnr has some pretty terrible views on things - but I am confused by this story - are we supposed to think he should have told the father of an unvaccinated girl who had died of measles - at her funeral - about the benefits of vaccination?

I am deeply confused by Dutton's reversal of the no Working from Home for public servants - it was clearly bad policy but I can't see how flip flopping on bad policy is likely to win anyone over to the Liberal's side - surely people just think it is either in bad faith or weakness?
