Yesterday my partner and I counted all the ads along Chicago's Brown Line for "Friend," a company selling an AI chatbot pendant, and tallied how many of those ads were defaced.

Still working on a longer piece on this, but here's the quick and dirty: we counted 104 "Friend" ads total, 42 defaced.

I have the internal component that makes the Nissan VC Turbo engine variable compression sitting on my desk.
What weird car thing do you inexplicably own that is not a car?

Me: DeLorean tool kit. (I do not own a DeLorean car.)

Just get the comic done?
No no no I don't think you understand.
This needs to be the best comic I've ever drawn actually.

Nissan uses an awful lot of words here to explain that they can't move the Z at its curent price point.

In the spirit of the holiday, I want to say how thankful I am that so many of our fans continue to support us. Creating an ongoing series is a privilege. I'm also thankful for the creator community. Here is a thread of a few of those I'm currently supporting. www.kickstarter.com/projects/the...

Or, you know, they're crowdfunding.
one positive side effect of all of this is the new transparency. the only folks left either have family wealth, a well-employed spouse (no shame!), or they're below the poverty (level like me.) the subject matter that creators choose makes more sense with the additional context.
Older creators bellyaching about feeling left outside of the comics industry have a myopic misunderstanding of what changes have taken place over the past few decades. The industry didn’t push you out, any sort of real coherent structural functional industry at all, sadly ceased to exist

What I love about this image is that the horses are clearly there because of Shatner's passion for the equestrian arts, and it's his final Trek movie. Then, for Stewart's final Trek movie, Nemesis, we get the Argo dune buggy, which is also only there because of Stewart's passion for driving.

Good thing I switched to RAPTCHA, which asks me to finish a RZA lyric to prove I'm human.
The fun thing about the current Cloudflare outage? Any site or service that uses Cloudflare's CAPTCHA system doesn't work.

One good way to test basically every headline about AI actually accomplishing something is to look into it at all.

"All because they made one little mistake, Spike?"

No, because they're liars. I don't for a second believe that's a "placeholder graphic" left in accidentally. They're using genAI, not admitting to it, and something slipped past QA, as it inevitably eventually would.

About 500 packages a year for me via Kickstarter, since 2020. All original, long-form comics. It works if you work it!
With the discussion of long-form, creator owned being a hard sell right now. There is a place it can and is still thriving - Kickstarter. More and more creators are going there with the intent to serialize. Is it more work? Probably. I've mailed 1400 packages since June.
However...

Would wear this, especially during winter hibernation season.
one thing that struck me on my recent rewatch is that the costuming and styling aesthetics for Chandrilans of all genders leaned hard towards "30s hollywood glamour with a strong dash of prewar Japan"
