Much more important than whether this particular mediocre young person succeeds, and considerably more worrying, is how easy it all is, and how smooth and efficient the process is through which all this noise and damage is manufactured—how simple the culture has made it for someone with nothing but themselves on their mind to hurt someone they think they might benefit from hurting, and how eagerly and unquestioningly this daisy chain of apparatchiks and opportunists and independent operators and actual elected officials will apply themselves to that work. It doesn't much matter whether Samantha Fulnecky was volunteering to join the movement to remove trans people from public life because she thought this oafish provocation might someday pay her bills, or is just a spoiled kid seizing an opportunity to walk to the front of the classroom and try her luck, Marine Todd-style. What matters is that it all ends up in the same place, and that this choice is so easily and cheaply made, and that there is a machine—well-funded, well-insulated, and much clearer about the terrible things it wants than anyone charged with describing it can quite bring themselves to acknowledge—that exists to send anyone desperate, cruel, or careless enough to enlist off to war.

Literally any human who has been even casually involved in education in the last decade knows multiple people who have gotten dubious diagnoses to get extra time on exams. I expect more from journalists, certainly, but let’s not pretend like this is a controversial issue.

My kids go to a "rich" public school. My daughter is 7 and cannot read; she is a sweet, caring, intelligent child, but if you spend a moment with her it is clear that she has ADHD an order of magnitude more serious than what you think of when you hear "ADHD." Anybody questioning her IEP can fuck off

"Rich kids are gaming disability accommodations to gain an unfair advantage" is actually very different from "America has an extra-time-on-tests problem" — and the author hasn't proved that either! Rich kids might just be more likely to be diagnosed.

Sen. Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, just introduced a bill to ban Americans from holding dual citizenship. The bill says that to “preserve the integrity of national citizenship, allegiance to the United States must be undivided.” It’s called the Exclusive Citizenship Act.

During the Trump era, political violence has become an increasingly urgent problem. Elected officials from both parties are struggling to respond. Balmer had pleaded guilty in mid-October, not just to arson and terrorism but to attempted murder. But Shapiro was still reluctant to focus on his attacker. “The prosecutor felt it was important to introduce into evidence the bomber’s claims that he did that because of ‘what I did to the Palestinians,’ so clearly there was some motivation because of my faith,” Shapiro said. “But I think it is dangerous for you or anyone else to think about those who perpetrate these violent attacks as linear thinkers, meaning that they have a left-wing ideology or a right-wing ideology, or that they have a firm set of beliefs the way you might or I might. These are clearly irrational thinkers. And I think that’s true of others who have claimed lives, whether it’s Speaker Hortman’s or Charlie Kirk’s.” right-wing homicides are far more common than left-wing homicides Across both datasets, we find that radical acts perpetrated by individuals associated with left-wing causes are less likely to be violent. In the United States, we find no difference between the level of violence perpetrated by right-wing and Islamist extremists.

Also, to be clear, these models are not the AI LLMs that most people are familiar with. They are machine learning algorithms trained on observations (actually reanalysis).
