People in 2050 would give trillions of dollars just to have the climate that we enjoy today.
Number of people living in extreme heat to double by 2050 if 2C rise occurs, study finds
Scientists expect 41% of the projected global population to face the extremes, with ‘no part of the world’ immune

While we can celebrate some data points, this is the defining context for global climate heating.

The climate will not stabilize to a certain temperature unless we stop burning fossil fuels and deal with land use in a sustainable manner.
The International Energy Agency (IEA) has regular reports (monthly, quarterly) which provide short-term projections of coal, oil, & gas.

As of January 2026, it looks like fossil CO2 emissions in 2026 will be relatively flat: the drop in coal (-1%) offset by growth in gas (2%) & oil (0.8%).

we can spend a billion dollars on adding a new lane that won't fix congestion but we can't spend a million dollars on making it safe to walk outside, to improve public transportation, or to build bike lanes, all of which are cheaper than roads.
Project to add a lane, making a safer 5 Freeway between 405 and 55, gets underway
The $715 million project will be funded by Measure M, the half-cent sales tax collected in Orange County for transportation projects, and state and federal contributions.

100%. Ask yourself if you'd want your future on the line with an attorney with 61 other cases with similar stakes. The fact that SF public defender is not giving in to the overwhelming pressure to settle is a credit to their commitment to their constitutional duties.
“Refusing to settle cases” means defending clients who have a good case rather than encouraging them to take a quick plea bargain, which saves department resources but is often not the best outcome for the client. The solution here is to hire more public defenders, not harass them.

Why are famous chefs fighting PFAS bans?
The answer, in retrospect, is obvious—and it’s part of a larger campaign to stop bans on Teflon cookware nationwide.

Hell yeah! Bus-to-bart just got significantly cheaper. Combined with the increased bridge tolls and we may get people back on public transit.
I hope every transit agency doesn't shut up about this for months

out there every day putting signs in front of drivers telling them transit just got cheaper so why not take the bus and enjoy not being stuck in traffic

this is one of the largest non-capital project changes to transit in decades
Starting next week, riding this bus and most other buses to BART will be FREE!

Clipper 2 rolls out on December 10, including free and low cost transfers between all transit agencies.

Riders will automatically receive discounts up to $2.85 when transferring within a two hour window.
