Boomers say they want to age in place, but few have a real plan. That gap between intention and reality is the single biggest opportunity for senior living in Canada.

As a writer for The Beaverton, I realize that it's easy to read the headlines and move on, but this piece by my boss slash colleague Luke is very very funny and I highly endorse it.
Q - Why, given all the terrible things happening in the world, do people care about this?

A - Micro-analysis: They see it as an example of government overreach and bureaucratic cruelty towards an independent farm. Macro-analysis: The world is getting dumber every day.

American owned paper in Canada presents us the "spokesman" to break up our country.
Tadda: he's a former US marine.
They can't even find a real Canadian to be MAGA's quisling puppet.
Piss off back to the States dude and take your marine oath of loyalty with you.

This opinion piece is typical of the AI hype genre.

First, it makes huge assertions: AI increases productivity, that it "fosters innovation," and so forth, without citing any sources for those assertions.

Second, it ignore the enormous social and environmental costs of LLM and such.

There was a mayor in Dawson City , who, during a citizenship ceremony once said, “Canadians are born all over the world. It just sometimes takes them a bit of time to get here.”

Now, every time a new citizen announces they have become Canadian, someone always quotes that.

And I nearly always cry.

Just a reminder that the USA owes a lot of its culture today — sports, Hollywood, and comedy, to name the key points — to Canadian innovators.

So, aside from this, there's also how the Warner Bros, etc, were all Canadians who set up shop in Hollywood, plus Mack Sennett, Mary Pickford, etc.

I hope that the Premier reconsiders her desire to invoke the “notwithstanding clause” in dealing with Teachers.

This very rarely used clause, stripping Canadians of civil rights, has no place in collective bargaining.

General strike would be a commensurate response.

Not a hard question, except for the culture that pretends it's not the answer

1) right-wing media lies incessantly, so anyone truth-based doesn't trust it, and anyone who trusts it doesn't trust anything else

2) other media treats those lies as legitimate, for "fairness," getting trust from no one

I wrote a piece for @bakerinstitute.bsky.social about how decentralized social media is the future, leading to a sector that is more global and with smaller players.

I probably should have run all this by someone like @mmasnick.bsky.social first, but hopefully I didn't botch things too badly!
