Last week, ICE arrested and separated a father and son after a routine check-in. Six-year-old Yuanxin had just enrolled in the first grade at an elementary school in Astoria. Now he's in custody, alone. ICE won't say where. This cruelty serves no one. It must end.

Nothing will sour you on the general concept of landmarking quite like living in Seattle.
This is the difference between making the park safer and keeping it “in tact” for the preservationists that the Landmarks Board said was just not possible to approve

Before (dangerous). After (safe).

Quite proud of the fact that my modest exercise routine put me in good enough shape to not hurt myself at the annual family Thanksgiving football game. This is good progress over recent years!

This guy is all over my local NextDoor, and the odd thing is that a lot of his posts are not this hyperbolic? Like, he talks about a couple of RVs that are visibly, noticeably involved in drug dealing and theft, and to be fair, they operate with total impunity down there.
how many times has the Seattle Times run a "compassion is great, but" editorial arguing for a lack of compassion at this point? we get it, you think homelessness should be illegal, find literally anything else to talk about. (Also, no Seattle neighborhood has been "destroyed," good god.)

Happy “my SIL’s idiot partner got on a plane back home this morning” to all who celebrate (me, my wife, my kids).

In two days my niece goes back to her dad’s, and in ten days, my SIL and the twins move into their apt. And then, finally, I will rest.

So it’s not really that different than any other “software solution” that executives get convinced to fork over massive cash for, without identified, demonstrable benefit to the workers producing value.
A study by Dayforce shows 87% of executives use AI for work, compared to 57% of managers and just 27% of employees.

I think this explains the massive disconnect we see in how CEOs talk about AI versus everyone else. It also raises the question of how useful it truly is for frontline work?
Execs are embracing AI more than their employees are, new research suggests
Research from HR software company Dayforce suggests that executives are leaning into AI far more than their employees.

Parent-teacher conferences were tough this year. All of the stress and chaos in our home life has definitely translated into issues at school. The kids put on brave faces but they are dealing with a LOT of grief. Grateful for teachers who are bringing every resource to bear that they can.

This is also a place being rhetorically pro-immigration could be good. "I think immigration makes this country great and I don't care what anyone else thinks."

TBH I think part of the issue is that a lot of parents want online gaming platforms to be something their kids can just go do, and they don't have to pay any attention to it. I am on the complete opposite side of that. I don't think such a thing is remotely realistic. 1/
The gaming platform Roblox is very popular with children. But it has also attracted adult predators and is facing more than 20 lawsuits over child safety. The hosts of "Hard Fork" asked the company's CEO about what they are doing to protect young users. nyti.ms/4oN4Gse
