After many years of being a loyal listener to every iteration of @richarddeitsch.bsky.social's podcast, I finally booked a guest. Glad to see so much enthusiasm around the AUSL - softball's time is now!
NEW PODCAST: The guest is one of the greatest softball players in U.S. history — Cat Osterman

We discuss the start of the Athletes Unlimited Softball League, the media and financial investment and why now is the time for a pro softball league to make it longterm.

Today was a special day for women's sports, softball and the AUSL. Personally, it was also a nice full-circle homecoming. 10 years after leaving MLB, was great to work with them again, walk into their new office and see so many old friends.
Major League Baseball's partnership with the Athletes Unlimited Softball League marks the league's first major investment in women's professional sports.

Again, I don’t think the average person realizes the degree of which these people have gone insane. You can state, just as a matter of fact, that Elon publicly believes we live in a “Truman Show” constructed by USAID. But you’re the one who sounds nuts if you say that!

This one hit me. The journalists who created the digital media era from about 2008-2019 aren't the only ones who feel super nostalgic about it.

This matters. Not because I think Trump is capable of mercy or empathy towards these vulnerable groups. But because it is a public act of defiance.

Contrast that with all these other powerful people in this country signaling nothing but appeasement and obedience.
Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde to Trump: "I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now. There are gay, lesbian, and transgender people in Democratic, Republican, and independent families, some who fear for their lives ... and the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals"

Fact-checking wasn’t “biased” against conservatives. Conservatives just shared more false content. If there’s a sportsball game and one team fouls four times as much, it’s not “biased” for the ref to call four times as many fouls against that team.

Meta is dropping fact-checking to avoid anti-conservative bias- but is there actually evidence of bias?
We this test empirically & find that conservatives
* ARE suspended more
* BUT share more misinfo
So suspension isn't necessarily evidence of bias www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Truly a legend. Everyone who covers sports media/TV these days owes a debt of gratitude to Rudy Martzke for paving the way.
Sad news: Rudy Martzke, the legendary sports media reporter/columnist, has passed away, according to NBC Sports EVP of communications, Greg Hughes.

I mean, great that Gaetz is out. But I can easily think of 10 people who would be just as bad -- if not worse, because they could be more effective.
It will be hard to find someone worse than Matt Gaetz for attorney general. But if anybody can do it, I trust it's the president-elect.

Obviously this is bad, but honestly I think it'll get more coverage when it inevitably leaks than it would if they'd just release it officially. The idea that it's being purposely suppressed will increase the intrigue.

I dunno about you, but I'm not looking for this place to recreate what Twitter is now, minus the Nazis. I'm hoping it will magically transport us back to, say 2012-2014 Twitter, when it was fun and all we did was argue about what color a dress was and share live links to llamas running loose.

Outstanding feature!
Fun fact: If someone quotes a post of yours in a way that is unwelcome (as is commonplace on Twitter/X) there is a tool to combat the unwanted attention. Simply click the three dot menu on the quote post & click "Detach quote". This removes your post from their quote post. Useful to know, do share!
