A 🧵 about the magic of translation:

A woman recently reached out to me after finding snippets of my version of Alexander Voloshin’s mock epic of exile in Hollywood, SIDETRACKED, on my blog. Attached to her email was a photo: 1/5

Just a rando Friday night thought:

I wanna see more women becoming voices in action film discussion in 2026. The last 13± years have been cool but it's mostly a sausage fest, and some of these dudes are just enabled, untested dickwads who think they're cool but aren't. Something needs changing.

I love her charisma and presence in all genres, but I have a soft spot for her roles in movies with a lighter touch...

The idea that EN publishers would use AI for speed is hilarious, because most LNs start out serialized as web novels or published in magazines.

They're already pirated and fan/AI-translated by impatient fans long before the JP side even publishes them as novels.
As machine translation tools under the banner of AI become increasingly accessible and easy to use, the light novel landscape is at a crossroads. Do light novel publishers compromise their product for more speed, and if so, by how much?

Happy to lend my expertise to this article.

Light Novels are already being pirated with machine translation. Publishers have been beaten to the punch — and will need human translation to earn their readers’ dollar.

More Milkyway Image coming soon from Chameleon Films: Johnnie To's much demanded A Hero never Dies and Soi Cheang's paranoid thriller Accident. Both have been in the works for a while now with A Hero Never Dies even undergoing a digital restoration. New subtitles by me as well.

A reminder: AI is a bad translator--it will give you in a pinch the meaning (if it doesn't get hopelessly confused) , but i will not create something that reads like a book.
That's why we have professionals.
(And everyone who's reread ai translations knows that it's faster going to rewrite them)

Bon, je n'en peux plus de soupirer. 🙃

Can see why Labour waited for Lords stages before adding THIS to the Crime and Policing Bill.

Extending protest suppression to include vague ‘cumulative’ impacts (that could include OTHER protests!) will clearly be misused by police.

Lords must oppose this attack on our rights.
🚨 BREAKING: The government has tabled their plan to restrict repeat protests.

Demonstrations could now banned based on the 'cumulative disruption' that previous protests have caused in the area - regardless of if they have been organised by the same people or not.

This is worse than we feared.
