A squirrel is standing inside and peeking over the top rim of a hollowed out pumpkin. The top of the pumpkin can be seen behind. I have characters and a basic idea of where I'm going in my head...then I let the characters write the story for me.

I'm not at all formulaic, at least not consciously. I just write stories that I really want to read.

it wasn't so hard to memorize your friends' phone numbers when you consider dialing them at home was the only way to reach them back then. I'd probably call my best friend at least 3 times per week, back in high school. you're bound to memorize a few numbers.

Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?

I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

I'll probably rip out the plants next week and make salsa out of all the greens, but I'm going to milk them for red tomatoes as long as I can.

I actually like finding plot holes during the writing process because filling them inevitably leads to some really cool plot twists and/or lore, but I hate that my brain only seems to find them at 4am.
