In my work the client is fine with our average handle time being slightly higher because our quality is much better. Plenty of people understand the trade off between time and quality

Tests are to measure your knowledge of the material, not to see how fast you can complete it. IRL employers want employees that know stuff and if employees need reasonable accommodations, they must provide them. Schools are no different.

What was Newton’s time limit for inventing calculus? Did the buzzer go off when Curie was working on pioneering nuclear medicine and imaging? Structured testing determines the best test taker. Not the best at getting results.

If every worker completed their work at some time limit, everyone would be out the door at 5pm. But they don't because for many tasks the time limits are arbitrary.

Do you really want your lawyer or accountant or even your plumber declaring "pencils down, this is what you get" at 5:00?

This is hilariously stupid logic. He's asking school to test students with no accommodation for their learning disabilities so that... They can measure how bad their learning disabilities are? 🤔Over and over again? Is that was schools are for, measuring just how bad your learning disability can get?

So grades are about how well you do completing work in an arbitrary amount of time, rather than understanding material?

Got it

My wife has accommodations with her school. She usually doesn’t even need the extra time on her test, it just prevents her from getting in her own head about time, which provides a BETTER measure of her grasp of the subject matter, since being a good therapist isn’t reliant on time sensitive recall

My son's physical condition made sitting upright extremely difficult, often triggering an illness attack. So his HS/college grades should have measured ... passing out?

He's cruising through a math PhD program, absolutely killing it & having the time of his life. In remission.

Say it to my face.

Getting extra time to take a test is “bullshit,” but having both parents be Harvard economists who get you into Harvard to also be an economist is just bootstrappin’

People without disabilities scores don’t improve with extra time. This is a standard diagnostic tool for dyslexia.

What could possibly happen to a society that rewards rushing to judgment and systematically penalizes thoughtfulness?

Oh. Here we are.

Even if jobs worked that way, who cares? The purpose of education is to teach, not to put someone in an environment to evaluate how good they are at a job. Accommodations that help a student learn are what educators should be doing.

Yeah, it's actual blood libel (ie. accusing Jews of murdering Christians to use their blood in eeeevil rituals).

Jews don't use blood in any rituals. Our texts explicitly forbid consuming blood of any sort. And we don't bake pancakes or special bread at Sukkot, wtf.

Protect Norman Rockwell from the hashtag retvrn creeps. His legacy is so much better than that.
65 years ago on Nov. 14, little Ruby Bridges was escorted into an all-white elementary school in New Orleans. Norman Rockwell, renowned for blissful depictions of Americana, did this remarkable painting for Look magazine. Printed as a double page, over-size spread, it's his masterpiece.

3 years ago today, Riot Games offered me a job making more money than I ever thought I’d make in my life. I had 19 interviews over 2.5 months to get it. Partner and I were moving to LA for it. I put in notice at my job and apartment.

2 weeks later they rescinded the offer due to “headcount issues”.

the reason people still want to go indie and put themselves at tremendous risk is not wanting to put up with this kind of shit anymore. it's completely insane and completely humiliating how normal it is for companies like this to put people through all kinds of weird torture to prove their worth
