I do not believe in fate, gods, or karma... and yet, every time I say "no more new projects until I finish at least one ongoing one", something new breaks that needs immediate fixing.

Pondering this tonight. Why is left as an exercise for anyone mourning the passing of American Democracy.

Ah, crap. What did I miss in the news cycle? *checking*
Canada has affirmed its commitment to the people of Greenland. We are opening a consulate there in the spring. Canada is stepping up with Europe as the United States descends into rogue state threats.

"The Only Cybertruck in Uganda" sounds like ballad material, particularly given this ending!
Poor lonely thing
“The only Tesla Cybertruck in all of Uganda seems to have rolled after tackling what appears to be a very mild dirt hill.”

I don’t mean to sound extreme, but I don’t think we should have torture camps for people with criminal records either.

Prisons in general in the US, particularly the for-profit private prisons, consider duty of care optional at best. The ICE nazis in specific though appear to be trying out different ways to get away with murder.
NEW: ICE will provide immediate medical attention to people in a California detention facility who were being denied care following our legal action last week.

People in government detention have a right to medical care, full stop.

Conveniently (and suspiciously) dead minority used to close two cold cases and, bonus, unilaterally stop green cards. Yeah, sure, maybe, but rather suspect.

So much this. I follow around a hundred people, maybe a hundred more on lists. If 10% of them post once a day, that's still more than I have time to read. Posty McPostalots are the bores who 'work the room' until everyone leaves; if someone regularly posts upwards of five a day they get unfollowed.
If you post 150 times a day someone should come do wellness check on you
You are massively underestimating what percentage of a site's active users are seriously, regularly, reliably active on the site without making posts. It takes about 10 posts/comments total to be in the 99th percentile of daily active users and about 150 posts to be in the 99.99th percentile.

One way that the reaction to Rob Reiner's murder mirrors Charlie Kirk's is that the best way to eulogize each of them is to quote their words, and in both cases, doing so pisses off conservatives.
Rob Reiner: “Silence in the face of authoritarianism is complicity. Speaking out is a patriotic act. Democracy doesn’t defend itself. It requires participation, vigilance, and courage from ordinary people."

An Anti-Defamation League that actually believed in its stated mission would savage Trump for his comments about Rob Reiner and his wife, but they are too busy trying to find out whether an Oberlin student said something critical of Israel.

"Hit points". Model damage realistically. I don't care if something has health expressed in exponents, if I succeed in putting even a single arrow through an eye socket it should still go down. Hated this since D&D rev 1.
Degrading weapons. Come _on_. If you want to make maintenance a game mechanic… sure I guess. But hunks of steel do not degrade into unusable shape after 30 uses.

There's a good movie, Sleep Dealer (2008!), which conjectures borders permeable to labor but not laborers, via teleprescence. Thankfully the tech still has a ways to go... but now there's also the added nightmare of AI eventually training on the data to disenfranchise people entirely.

The DC shooting story is really getting to me because we literally trained this man as a child soldier for a death squad in a forever war and Stephen Miller et al want to blame it on other cultures? It's our culture, American culture, that killed that woman.
