Catherine O'Hara played drunk better than anyone
O'Hara observed people closely; she found the tics, the mannerisms, the specific beats of drunkenness and used them to open us up to her characters' frailty, their vulnerability, their humanity.

This is all an FU to anyone who doesn't have a car. This all proliferates car ownership and declining affordability of living in this city
Recommended to save teeny tiny amounts of money:

-Reduce Transit Stop Snow Standards to 48 hours
-Eliminate the large item pickup on trash day
-Eliminate all sidewalk & accessibility ramp clearing outside the core

Alberta has been quietly removing books from school libraries, but not listing which ones. Turns out most titles have themes related to 2SLGBTQ+ people

A great scoop by @readtheorchard.org

Here are the secret lists of banned books from Alberta's 2 largest school boards
The Calgary Board of Education removed 42 books from its libraries and the Edmonton Public School Board removed 33 in response to an order from Education Minister Demetrios Nicolaides.

Following this exclusive (and excellent) piece from David, I've contacted the federal government to ask if they intend to continue subsidizing JSI Telecom in the future.

I've also contacted JSI Telecom for comment, adding them to the list of Canadian businesses working with ICE who I've contacted.
In December, the Canadian government gave $1 million to Ottawa's JSI Telecom to commercialize AI-driven data analytics.

JSI, a wiretaps and investigation support firm, had a banner year in U.S. government sales in 2025, including a big new contract with ICE.

There is not a lot Canadians can do about ICE, but we can ask Parliament to investigate Canadian companies doing business with them, like Hootsuite. Call or email your MP - or contact the INDU House committee MPs. Will post link below. www.theglobeandmail.com/business/art...

I once got to ask Wes Anderson if he loved hotels as much as it seems from The Royal Tenenbaums and Hotel Chevalier and The Grand Budapest Hotel. The answer: not really! You forget something in your room and have to trek all the way back from the lobby! Never ever could have guessed that response.
Being a journalist is sick: I just contacted a pre-eminent jaguar conservationist in Argentine with a question that has been weighing on me for ages and he wrote back right away with an informed answer.

fuck no, I refuse to cede any ground on vaccinations. this isn’t up for debate. it’s settled science, has saved millions of lives, and isn’t something I will waste a second of my life arguing with any mouth breathers about.
What do people suppose, at this point in time, in the United States as it's currently constituted, would be the outcome of the argument, taken to its logical conclusion, that vaccines should not be mandatory for children unless they want to attend public schools?
I think we are arguing process here. One of the best ways to enforce childhood vaccinations is requiring them for school attendance. That is what she is arguing here. Lots of states mandate vaccinations through schools.

She is very pro-vaccine. I’ve followed her from the start of the pandemic.
