“this is all capitalism’s fault” is just a dressier way of saying “work sucks, am I right??” and anyone analyzing it as a statement of ideology is making a category error
"This is all capitalism's fault" is treated as wisdom but it's probably the laziest analysis you can find on the left

100% this, the lack of curiosity or imagination among otherwise curious and creative people is baffling
(and PS, this is a little sci fi, but while I don't consider current AI conscious, it freaks me out a little that the type of people most likely to worry about abusing a new form of life are currently the least likely to ever believe an AI could be conscious)

i saw someone on here invoking the Chinese Room as a kind of proof that AI cannot have a mind, and to argue differently was the height of absurdity. which was baffling to me, because I’ve always thought of the Chinese Room as helping expose the incoherence of the lay conception of “mind”
To avoid this, Searle gets put into the position of having to posit a person who "doesn't speak Chinese" but has all the rules and lookups in his head that allow him to speak Chinese!
To me, this is pretty unconvincing but to many non-CS people it's treated as proof that AI doesn't have mind.

One of the interesting things in philosophy of AI is what you might call the sociology of Searle's Chinese Room. I learned about the idea largely from comp sci people, who almost always treat it as "that thing Searle was obviously wrong about." And they use a different argument from philosophers.

I know not everyone is down for free trade and open immigration, but separate from the particulars, it's both sad and scary to me that every day Earth's countries seem to be closing the doors. There's plenty to complain about with the post-WWII order, but also so many good things taken for granted.
