People are delusional if they think AI is going to make up for the work / productivity these people do. No, it’s going to result in more privatized services, consultancy costs etc. but that doesn’t matter
Quite frankly, it’s outrageous that Mark Carney is cutting Statistics Canada. If he was Stephen Harper or Pierre Poilievre, I feel like this would be getting a lot more backlash.

Carney of all people should know the importance of high-quality data and information about the country.

too much money is spent plowing and salting roads. very very few vehicles are actually impeded by snow.

we plow only so drivers don't have to suffer the indignity of having to drive at speeds lower than too fast.

We get this issue here in Ottawa. I can usually shovel it out with my snow shovel, if I get there soon enough, but after an hour or two it usually compresses down from its own weight into a mass of ice. For that I have a steel shovel to break it up. It can be a bunch of work, though.
