Sarah survived but lost her family. The story is consistent with the records. And the song is about her remaining in the Gaspé. There’s a graveyard there for the 140 who died. Only 40 survived.

It’s the story of Sarah who leaves Sligo for Québec with her husband, son and five daughters on one of the famine ships, the Carrick (a real ship that sailed in 1847, and sank at Cap-des-Rosiers in the Gaspé).

In May, another teenager, Marcelo Gomes Da Silva, was arrested by ICE in Milford. He was detained for six days at the agency's field office in Burlington before being released.
He said during the six days in custody, he was surrounded by adult men, and he was uncomfortable using the bathroom in front of others. He slept on concrete floors using a mylar blanket.
