I was telling one of my kids that it was physically impossible for an ad to play between songs on any of the records I own, and they asked "and you only have to pay for it once?" and you could see how strange that seemed. You cannot overstate how many basic rules of media consumption have changed.

This is haunting...

It's the oldest piece of music for which we have both the words and the notes. A song to the Hurrian goddess Nikkal, it was written on clay tablets around 3500 years ago, and was discovered in the 1950s in the ruins of the ancient city of Ugarit.

AOC: I want everybody to understand that the cuts to your health care are what’s paying for this. You get screwed over to pay a bunch of thugs in the street that are shooting mothers in the face.

I just recently heard from my local book seller, that people selecting her book shop as their nominated store meant half of her January rent was covered! Such a big impact for a small business in an quiet area.
Amazon is helping fund a $300 million build of a ballroom for the White House.

Independent bookstores are donating to food banks and organizations that help with food insecurity.

They are not the same.

At the start of a new year, it is easy to feel overwhelmed by the scale of environmental challenges. But improvements are possible.

Here are a few positive examples showing what can be achieved when #science, cooperation and political will come together 🤝🌍

We have the power to improve the environment — and here is the proof:
At the start of a new year, it is easy to feel overwhelmed by the scale of environmental challenges. But there is also something important to remember: improvements are possible.

I just left the Venezuela briefing.

It's worse than you thought.

Oil company executives seem to know more about Trump's secret plan to "run" Venezuela than the American people.

We need public Senate hearings NOW.

We will have to live with the disappointment.
My math fan father always sends out an email at New Year's factorizing the new year. (2025 was very interesting because it's 3ˆ4 × 5ˆ2).

He says: obviously 2026 is 2x1013 and it turns out 1013 is prime! So that was quick.

Despite everything I'm glad to be living in 2026 CE and not 1013 CE.

🐾 Corruption is sinking Russia’s military from the inside. Over 13 top defense industry managers are now on trial for fraud and graft, showing how deeply the rot goes. Putin’s so-called superpower is just a corrupt paper tiger, and it’s crumbling. Spread the truth and watch the Kremlin unravel.

I count 10 cities in 2025 that are on track to have the fewest murders since at least 1970. Newark is on pace to have the fewest murders since 1956 (though only have data through Oct this year) and San Francisco is on pace to have the fewest murders since 1942.

EU industry is becoming cleaner: emissions from industrial production have dropped by over 30% since 2012 — even as the economy has grown.

But the real game-changer? Product design.
