This is the core problem. AI-boosters don't want to deal with messy humans who bring their own ideas to a collaborative process. They don't want to just *talk* to a concept artist, cause the artist might bring new good ideas, question their ideas etc. AI is programmed to make art but never talk back
If I wanted to make music based in part off my ideas, my first instinct would be to try to find a human being who is *good* at music to collaborate with, you know?

I spoke to a dozen professional concept artists working in games about whether generative AI image tools have made their jobs easier, even if it's just used in "very early ideation stages."

Zero said "yes." Most said it made their job harder.

I learnt a lot about concept artists. You should too!
We spoke to a dozen professional concept artists who are currently or have previously worked in game development about whether generative AI image tools have made their jobs any easier.

Zero said it did. Most said it made things harder.

Concept Artists Say Generative AI References Only Make Their Jobs Harder
“The ‘early ideation stages’, when worlds are being fleshed out by writers and artists, are literally crucial to the development of a game’s vision,” said one artist.

The insane thing to me about using AI to “help come up with ideas” is that I never, ever struggle with a shortage of ideas and I’m sure you don’t either. The issue is having the money or resources to expand upon ideas, while the people richest in those repeatedly hurl them at tech that doesn't work.

The bit of #SteamReplay I'm most proud of - playing demos, getting a broad overview of 'what's out there'. I've been logging my demo plays & discovered that if I stop after 5-15 minutes, I definitely won't buy. 25-60 minutes, seriously considering buying. 100+ minutes, I can't get to the answer/end

CW: terrorism, Sydney
My bet is, the Bondi Beach shooting is somehow related to the Lindt Café siege. The anniversary of the siege is today-tomorrow.
May this not happen again.
I wish comfort & recovery for the injured; support for the families, friends & communities of the dead & an end to violence

Fucking hero.
Ahmed al Ahmed, 43, has been identified as the man who disarmed one of the Sydney attackers.

Ahmed was shot by the second shooter, who was firing from a bridge. He suffered 2 gunshot wounds and is undergoing surgery.

I wanna be the flute and-related-instruments player at the #TheGameAwards , leading up to the game of the year announcement. Those are some amazing instruments and he looks like he's giving it his all

This is entirely wishful thinking but it would be cool if Red Info announces something at the game awards. Highly unlikely, but I can dream...

You post, iShare! No Ai nonsense. No dnd 5e stuff, enough avenues exist to help connect you to ppl. ❤️😈

Video games finished in November - only 1: Thank goodness you're here. Once I caught on that you revisit places & people, I enjoyed seeing how stories develop, especially Colin, Florence & Keri's stories. And Megg's husband's resignation every time he got covered in coal dust

I'd really love anyone who has influence over teens (parent, uncles/aunts, teachers etc) or anyone who worries about fascism and/or misogyny to read this one.
From personal observation, I really think pre-bunking is an important technique

100% - said this before. gamergaters were and are the unpaid "enforcers" of management of the game industry. no reason to ever meaningfully try to do anything about these right winger harassment waves when they're the ones out there acting out what most of the management class actually believes
Any one of these massive AAA videogame companies could file suit against the 6-piece Chicken McNobody ringleaders harassing their employees, and that they don't is a choice. I said before of goobergate that the industry enjoys having a bunch of unpaid Pinkertons around too much to ever give it up.

Really good thread!
Especially important if you've made or are the owner of something on the internet that lets people register, post, and communicate with each other ... particularly if it isn't really social media service ... or at least people wouldn't normally think it's social media ...
I have a fun hypothetical for the technical among us! (For certain values of fun, heh.) The scenario: You run a website. It doesn't have a mobile app: the only way to access it is in-browser. You are deeply, morally opposed to any form of invasive tracking or data-gathering on your users.

Playing anomaly games for research purposes (*cough* we'll see if that's true *cough*).
Anyway, this game feels very comforting, having lived in Tokyo for a year. Exit 8 just feels good to me ... but I know it's classified as psychological horror...

Sometimes you look at a photo of a whole (small) indie game dev studio & that's cool & all & well done to them, they just launched their 1st game
but there's only one person who potentially looks like a woman.

Oh, gosh, sometimes I hate it here. It really looks like it won't change in my lifetime

I had a variety of uncomfortable/scary experiences as a young woman working in Parramatta, travelling home on the last train of the night. But I didn't want vigilantes - from my point of view they are just as scary as the people they were supposedly protecting against
I was in Year 12 at the time and I remember these weird units on the trains in Sydney.

The NSW Police Minister described them as "loonies" and told them to go back to America.

And now Sliwa is running for Mayor of New York (Mamdani will thrash him and Cuomo IMO).

‘They got gangs here’: How Sydney got caught up in New York’s mayoral race
A candidate for mayor of New York City established a volunteer vigilante force to patrol Sydney’s train network in 1992. Here’s what he thought of Parramatta.

Oh! The video games played in October all begin with 'B':
The Biggleboss INCident; Blackwell Unbound; The Blackwell Convergeance; The Blackwell Deception; Backpack Battles.
Yep, #pointandclick
I've started the last in the Blackwell series - I'm not finished yet. I'm enjoying seeing how they develop

I don't always agree with Aust government tech policy, but I do think the ACCC should test this in court.
And another win for the day: the Aust government has ruled out changing copyright laws to allow companies to train AI for free: www.abc.net.au/news/2025-10...

I agree with what Commissioner Anna Cody says: “There is a rise in that more conservative agenda, and it has used the anti-trans ideology to drive that. I am concerned, both for all women and also for the trans community.”
