Some news: This winter Team Oonee is launching NYC's first Dutch-Style🚲 parking hub in Brooklyn's Sunset Park. The Hub will provide free parking for 100+ bikes/scooters, and will include safe charging, and appt based repairs + lite service. This will make history in several ways.

Where bike-friendly infrastructure is the norm, kids gain freedom. No car keys, no backseat waiting. They learn independence, time management, and how to get around on their own. A small shift in how we design cities helps them grow into confident, capable adults.

You should be outraged about Intro 606 (a bill to require e-bike "licenses") -- EVEN IF YOU DO NOT RIDE AN E-BIKE.

It's an insane stop-and-frisk revival.

The bill would let the NYPD pull over ANYONE on ANY BIKE -- even if they haven't broken the law.

Let me explain...

seriously, if there's an org that can help refurbish old cars or buses for outdoor dining — give the city what it wants. they want cars in parking spots, give them cars in parking spots

A damning rebuttal to the concern trolling about how bike infrastructure will delay emergency vehicles. It's not the bike lanes that will delay them; it's the cars stuck in gridlock. In this case, the bike lane helped!

depending on the right audience, which is even more critical in room full of transit activists, is to get at the heart of why we do any of this work — which is to help make our city easier to get around and change the physical landscape for the better

Let the record reflect the fact that a fierce coalition of restaurant & hospitality advocates, transportation advocates and small business advocates were not strong enough to overcome the hegemonic might of the car lobby.

....In a city where few people even drive on a regular basis!
“DOT has received 1414 applications for roadway dining. (For comparison, Paris's seasonal roadway-dining program had around 4,000 restaurants this summer.) At the peak of the pandemic, 11,000 restaurants and bars participated [in NYC].”

there's an upcoming december city council hearing in nyc for e-bike licensing. this is not as actually helpful in addressing problems you might have with e-bikes because the problem is not around bikes, but around failed street safety and awful gig working laws: transalt.org/press-releas...
Transportation Alternatives, Worker’s Justice Project, Street Safety and Environmental Advocates Urge City Council to Reject Costly, Ineffective E-Bike Licensing Bill — Transportation Alternatives
Intro 606 is nearly identical to Intro 758, which failed to pass last session. Major cities that introduced bike licensing laws found them ineffective and repealed them.

Our culture just doesn't support a free form bike society, especially as where they are dropped or located hasn't been executed in a way that supports local city infrastructure. Companies just dropped them wherever and let people do whatever they want.
Better infrastructure can eliminate this problem. In this case docks or secure bike parking. The real problem is an entire VC backed industry that basically decided that infrastructure was outdated 20th Century thinking.

I will say it until I am blue.
