Political violence is bad. It usually begets more political violence.

Celebrating political violence is bad. It usually encourages more political violence, against various targets.

Campus shootings are bad. They make everyone on campus less safe.

It's bad that what I wrote here is controversial.

We’re not seeing an empirical dispute of crime stats or a debate about what constitutes “crime under control. We’re seeing federal military occupation of US cities.

What the targets have in common is not crime rates, it’s voting against the president’s party.

Journalistic malpractice.

Honored he took time out of his they're-eating-the-cats-they're-eating-the-dogs schedule to shitpost on yet another app.
Hello Bluesky, I've been told this app has become the place to go for common sense political discussion and analysis. So I'm thrilled to be here to engage with all of you.

This is exactly backasswards imo, we are in such a position of profound civic rot because we think that rules and service and public good are for losers. Our media's poisonous cynicism means we don't aspire to better or expect better from those who serve us.

Corruption is normalized.

You can never win on a communication platform literally owned by the administration. This isn't just a conservative-leaning media outlet; it's literally owned by Musk/Trump. Any temporary wins you make in getting your message across can just be reversed by tweaking the algorithm/banning accounts.

A US President is no King. That's the core meaning of the Constitution, written by people who had good reason to not want a king. Congress makes the laws; the President enforces them. Employees of the Executive branch implement the laws passed by Congress, not Presidential whims.

the fact that people all over the country who are squeezed by housing costs hear stories about relatives moving to Florida and Texas and improving their material conditions despite overall GOP misgovernance because there is a lot of housing is a huge headwind for the Dems.
I truly believe that NIMBYism, the ensuing crisis of housing supply in America’s cities, and its manifold, rippling, ramifying effects, amounts to slow seppuku by the Democratic Party.
vital political priority to get blue states to stop refusing to build housing. not only giving up electoral college votes to the GOP but clearly pushing many people to the right

These false claims were trumpeted endlessly on TV and in print.

The prosecution and guilty plea of the "informant" who spread those false claims has received little attention.

This is how disinformation works.
Remember the FBI informant who claimed President Biden took millions in bribes from Burisma?

He admitted today in federal court that he made the whole thing up.

And that he started spinning new lies after meeting with Russian intelligence.

only real take on the Daniel Penny thing is that it's beyond clear that sustained visible public disorder, even if not actually that dangerous, makes otherwise open/liberal/cosmopolitan people into frothing reactionaries by now, and appeals to empathy aren't an effective counter.

The neocons were always pro-democracy. That’s their big thing.
A lot of people don’t like hearing this because of how badly neocons messed up thinking that trying to spread democracy at gunpoint in Iraq was a good idea, but when democracy was threatened in the US, they followed their main principle.
former neocons have begun talking like wild-eyed second wavers about the intertwining of fascism and patriarchy

The only definition of "working class" that lines up with Trump voter is the postmodern "holds right-wing views on culture war issues."
That's how the "working class" can include car dealership owners and rich tech VCs along with some laborers, but not include many waiters and grade school teachers.
