Yes. It’s the exact same dynamic in spousal abuse. When the abuser gets wind of the possibility that the abused spouse might leave, the abuser has nothing more to lose and often resort to violence.

We are all the abused spouse in this situation

I really, really, REALLY don't like that the concept of Lebensraum is making a comeback in 2025.
DHS’s post suggesting “if you help kick people out of the country you’ll be able to afford housing” is OG Nazism.

Lowest arts funding in the country despite a tourism industry that relies heavily on the local artists and artisans…. But it’s no problem to find $500k to subsidise Dave flipping Grohl?!? Are you kidding?

So the Foo Fighters are coming to Tasmania because the government paid $500k to "help facilitate that." I wonder how much "facilitation" will be going on to entice acts to the stadium. To the 40% who so desperately wanted this, you have been conned. #politas

I don’t need Hillary Clinton to tell me How to Jew Properly any more than I need Donald Trump to tell me How to Jew Properly.
Hillary Clinton blames TikTok and “totally made up” videos for young people’s views on Israel and Palestine.

She says social media influenced “not just the usual suspects” but also “young Jewish Americans who don’t know the history and don’t understand.”

This morning: silvery sunshine turning the last of the leaves golden red in the hazy light while beyond the mountains are misted with a soft dusting of new fallen snow while fog gently wreathes around the peak.

Me: oh feck off and stop showing off

“Must be nice to play video games all day.” I wouldn’t know, man, because making them is very different to playing finished versions for fun.
What’s the worst question someone can ask after you tell them your profession? For linguists, it’s definitely “how many languages do you speak?”, but I’m curious what else is happening to the rest of y’all out there?!

"No matter that the overwhelming majority of deaths and incidents on our roads are caused by drivers in ever bigger cars, the single biggest issue seems to always be cyclists running red lights, or how awful it is that money might be spent on making cycling easier, safer, and nicer."

You know what actually impedes emergency services? Rows of parked cars on every street.
In yet another blow for opponents of active travel schemes who claim - almost always without any evidence - that they impede blue light services, a new report finds the majority of Limerick’s protected cycle lanes do not impede ambulances, and in fact some improve access.

Do you ever go to the Power Corporation of Canada wikipédia page and just marvel at how fucked up Canada is. How is this a country. The joke that Canada is three resource extraction corps in a trench-coat ... it would be funny if it were a little less real.

My favorite algorithm is the books the librarians put out 😍

Libby also has booklists made by librarians. 🤩
Now "browsing" means Netflix compiles your recent watch history and feeds you more of the exact same thing. Or Amazon analyzes your buy history and gives you a list of 15 books with basically the same title. You rarely stumble upon something new or different by chance. It's eroding our curiosity.

The results are clear. Painted lanes lead to more cyclists being killed or seriously injured. Cycle tracks (i.e. protected lanes) are much safer and lead to huge increases in cycling.

This is data from Vancouver. Our politicians should stop ignoring it.

I do so love how The Discourse reminds me of when I was gifted with the AD+D PhB and DMG and I looked at it with what I can only describe as pure and utter mystification.

(Later, I was informed that it was the game for those who basically could afford to spend all weekend playing, mind you)
