All of this is spot on, with the additional factor that if trans kids grow up to be trans adults, they make it obvious that so many sexist pillars of the patriarchy/kyriarchy rely on the idea that gender/sex is obvious and immutable, and that certain paths are either required or denied on that basis
I keep wanting to say something, and I keep not knowing what to say.

The trans community does not harm cis people by existing. They are just trying to live their lives, same as anyone else. That life doesn't look exactly like mine; my life doesn't match anyone else's. That's okay.

I do want to clarify your ideas don't need to be deep and profound.

"This elf is a badass archer." is an idea. The challenge is how do you show your audience. This could be anything from a stick figure to a hyper realism. I used to say no wrong answers, but now, only one wrong answer. (GenAI)
The very first lecture I had at art school, told us that we weren't there to learn to make beautiful images. We were there to learn to communicate ideas. (That could sometimes be beautiful but also not.)

If we wanted to make "soulless beauty" we were pointed to the door.

This was 20 years ago.

You do not need genAI to communicate your ideas as a non-artist to an artist! A generated image doesn't actually share the key info that needs to passed on AND it discourages fruitful discussion

Okay, I'll make a thread of 50 indie games which I'll add to over the week, staring with.

1. Carimara

Play as a little goblin creature summoned by a witch to investigate what's haunting her cottage, it's a creepy bite-size mystery akin to the Frog Detective games, and has gorgeous visuals.

"Something that I have found difficult for non-artists to understand is that the ‘early messy stuff’ that non-arty folks insist can be ‘fixed by a human artist later’ is where the best work is done."

True of every creative field. You can't start building halfway up; the foundation has to be sound.
We spoke to a dozen professional concept artists who are currently or have previously worked in game development about whether generative AI image tools have made their jobs any easier.

Zero said it did. Most said it made things harder.

Concept Artists Say Generative AI References Only Make Their Jobs Harder
“The ‘early ideation stages’, when worlds are being fleshed out by writers and artists, are literally crucial to the development of a game’s vision,” said one artist.

Muting a Black woman to claim the vote was unanimous is so incredibly on the nose
The White House claims the vote to rename the Kennedy Center was “unanimous.” That is false. I was muted on the call and denied the opportunity to speak or register my opposition. That is not consensus. That is censorship.

I will never, ever, understand people who want to outsource their humanity. Learning how to make something feels amazing. And I mean the whole process, including the frustrating times. Because then you know you MADE it. You can't feel genuine pride in something you didn't make.

I really wanted to add this behind the scenes from HTTYD (2010). Doing the work of figuring out how to communicate your ideas clearly is where these magical moments get made. If you throw that work in the trash, you throw away some of the best parts of your stories with it. youtu.be/vDsFQIWVfEQ?...

"figuring out how to express an idea" is like, the core part of being an artist. That's the hard part, that's the challenge, that's what drives you. It's frustrating when it's not working yes, but that makes the success all the better when you finally crack it.
Anyone who supports this is an embarrassment. "Instead of typing it out they'll generate their idea"? Are you insane?

Call yourself whatever you want but you aren't creatives, that's for sure.

Fuck all of you saying "this is inevitable" or "it's here deal with it" or even "it's fine"/"it's not a big deal". Be antihuman on your own time. This is a moveable needle. It's ruining lives (mine included already), ruining the environment, ruining art and creativity, isn't needed and isn't wanted.

This is such a misunderstanding of why writers, artists, and designers do research to begin with, which is to find something unexpected, not capture the average or find reference for the default.

And, as always, the biggest misapprehension: We don’t want to NOT do this part. It’s fun to learn shit
