Step one is done. With my ancient tiny laptop hollowed out, I begin the process of converting this into a prototype communications box. My plans are to get an SBC like LattePanda Mu or a raspberry pi, a compact keyboard and mouse combo, and a small screen or two, and some antennas and stuff

Now couple this with the fact that recipients of funding from Legal Services Corporation, the government agency that funds legal aid nonprofits, are prohibited from representing undocumented people, and you begin to see the scope of the problem.
A hugely underdiscussed effect of the creeping fascism of ICE is that debt collectors and landlords are filing more cases against immigrants, even when they're inflated or outright falsified, because they know immigrants are too fearful of deportation to show up to court to fight them.
