💯. It's not these patriotic citizens' fault they're being used as performative props by a corrupt, mendacious, and deranged president. They deserve our kindness and respect, and now, devastatingly, our deepest concern and sympathy. 😢

Difficult to overstate how profound a failure DOGE was. Spending in FY2025 was not only than in FY2024 – but higher than it was projected to be when Trump first took office.*

The little bit of spending DOGE cut has already killed hundreds of thousands and will eventually lead to millions of deaths.
Bye bye, “DOGE”.

It no longer exists as a “centralized entity”, according to the Office of Personnel Management.

one thing i think is true is that republicans assumed that democrats would not respond in kind and that the forceful pushback spooked them (a lesson to learn here, perhaps)
Trump's corrupt scheme to rig 2026 is suddenly falling apart:

*Court strikes down Texas GOP gerrymander
*Indiana GOP lacks votes to redraw map
*Big Dem win in Virginia could give Ds more seats

On the pod, DLCC head Heather Williams is informative on what's next:

Standing up to a tyrant - who is willing to impose pain as leverage to compel loyalty or acquiescence - is hard. You can convince yourself that yielding stops the pain and brings you back to "normal".

But there is no "normal". Submission emboldens the tyrant. The threat grows.

If I’m reading this correctly, the Senate Deal funds USDA (including SNAP), the FDA, and the Department of Veterans Affairs for the rest of the Fiscal Year.

But the rest of the government is now scheduled to shut down again on January 30th.

The solution to the male loneliness epidemic is attending a local Democratic Party canvassing event.
WOW. 81% of women 18-29 voted for Mamdani, 80% for Sherril, and 78% for Spanberger.

Gen Z women aren't playing around.

Politicians should probably get on Bluesky to get better in touch with the American electorate.

Unironically, the Right SHOULD move left to become more electable. It’s clear that Americans are dissatisfied with Republican rule. They should turn SNAP back on and stop trying to cut the ACA! They should negotiate w/ Dems to reopen the Government!
Looking forward to learning all about how the right should move left to win elections tomorrow. They should maybe dye their hair pink, learn to love pronouns.

If the Speaker feels this way, the appropriate response is to draft a bill and argue for it in Congress, where he works. If he wins over enough legislators, he can pass the bill into law. Instead, he has taken a 6 week vacation while the President has illegally shut down a program Congress created!

SNAP is a little bit of an odd program — too flexible to really be “nutrition assistance” but much less flexible than cash — but it’s a vital boost to poor families’ living standards and there’s lots of evidence that its benefits far exceed the costs.

Cannot say enough: the Trump administration actively chose to illegally withhold SNAP benefits in November, pretending they weren’t allowed to deliver benefits this month despite their own guidance from September 30 saying they could — guidance they deleted on October 23.

Trump is illegally withholding SNAP payments even though it has money — it has nothing to do with the shutdown.

“Just pass the CR then” misses the point. Once he’s decided to illegally withhold benefits even though there’s funding, he could do that when the government is open too.

I know a thing or two about SNAP because President Biden appointed me to work in the office that oversees that program at USDA.

You should know that people are going to go hungry this month because the Trump White House deliberately chose to withhold their benefits.
