The line for Tokyo Central's grand opening was stretching down several blocks and up into the Bay Street parking garage. Amazing having the Consulate-General of Japan from SF and the President of Marukai corporation speaking at the event in our little city.

This is his most recent video. The first hour is a fairly typical one by him talking about energy technologies. He has a link to that as a standalone video in the description. The last ~30 minutes are a well-justified political rant www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtQ9...

Under construction at the Emeryville Greenway crossings today.

Get yourself a city that will build you a raised crosswalk PLUS speed humps on each side.

Tokyo central in Emeryville had a soft opening today and tomorrow from 10-4. It is even better than I could have imagined, I'll be there for the ribbon cutting at 9am Saturday as well.

The attacks on everyday people in the streets of Minneapolis betray the values of safe, thriving communities. These aren't isolated tragedies: they're the result of a system that treats public space as a battleground and our neighbors as expendable.

YIMBYs (like Jordan) have literally been saying this for years, only to meet the deaf ears of electeds.

Bad local housing policy is literally furthering the descent of the US into fascism! It's that serious!
Decades of restrictive housing policies by liberal cities and states are finally coming back to bite us in a major way.

If we can't create the conditions for a massive blue state housing construction boom as soon as possible, we're cooked.

For parking!

STRAIGHT INTO MY VEINS!!!!!!!!
The world may be burning down around us, but thankfully San Mateo homeowners are laser focused on the real issue of our time: getting the city to rip out bike lanes in favor of more parking

It’s no secret I have a lot of love for Minnesota. Minneapolis shaped me more than I can probably ever truly express. If you are looking for a way to help the good people of Minnesota and aren’t there, there are a ton of good ways you can support the work on the ground there financially

“Metro staff report said SB 79 could harm the transit agency’s expansion by galvanizing opponents against new light rail stations & dedicated bus lanes,” because law requires higher densities there.

But if a transit station area isn’t planned for higher densities… the station shouldn’t be built.
L.A. Metro, the main transit operator for Los Angeles, just voted to oppose SB 79, a law legalizing the construction of housing near stations. You can't make this stuff up. Legislators should remember this the next time they come to Sacramento begging for more money.

the contrast between Zohran and, like, Karen Bass is pretty remarkable. Zohran has a clear vision of a more affordable and sustainable city and forcefully supports pro-housing polices as a key part of that vision.

Meanwhile, Karen Bass doesn’t seem to believe in anything in particular at all

NEW VIDEO: North America’s Elevator’s Problem

Elevators are absolutely essential to modern cities..... and it turns out North America kind of sucks at them. We partnered with @sightline.org to look into the many issues plaguing our elevator industry, and what it might take to fix it.
The United States has the fewest elevators in the rich world, with Canada only a bit ahead. We teamed up with @uytaelee.bsky.social of About Here Videos to investigate why, exactly, North America sucks at elevators.

When NIMBYs say that California is full and their cities can’t accommodate more housing, they are saying that queer people trying to get out of red states are on their own.
New research confirms what many of us see: there's a large internal migration of LGBTQ people in the US, especially trans people, to friendlier states & cities.
Since 11/2024, 9% of all trans people have moved to another state, 43% have considered moving.

I can't describe how bad Minneapolis feels right now. My neighbors are pulling kids out of school. The public schools are offering remote learning until 2/12. We are having conversations in our alleys about how to protect ourselves. It feels like a military occupation with a blockade.
The US Department of Agriculture suspends all federal funding to Minnesota, effective immediately.
