Why would anyone think the two are different or that one is any worse? It's all bad. People are still playing sports teams on this issue.
*disabling quotes and replies* i wonder how all those folks who complained about biden and harris giving isreal infinite money and weapons to commit genocide against Palestine are feeling about trump giving isreal infinite money and weapons to commit genocide against Palestine today fingernail emoji

The Robby Hoffman Netflix special really is extremely entertaining. Plus she does this fantastic fucking joke about traffic crashes that I was never good enough to do with the comedic experience I had when I thought of it years ago. But this is so great that now I never have to do it.

It's funny what people think is boring. I saw a good chunk of critiques of PLURIBUS supposedly being dull. But I couldn't keep my eyes off it. It was slow-paced, but they executed everything with master craftsmanship.

Probably Bruce Willis' best ever acting.

People were just not used to big blockbusters not based on 40-year-old IP for a long time, so AVATAR baffled them.
The release of a film making people argue constantly online about whether or not it has cultural impact is, in itself, cultural impact.

Whether it has any beyond that, now....

Cormac McCarthy writes about all of these decayed, charred fuckin dystopian landscapes in THE ROAD. But then you read his other work and he writes about normal America in the exact same way as he does the fictional hellscape in this, which is funny to me.

I still don't get what the issue is with long movies. Obviously they have to be good. But it can be such a rich immersion with a really long film. Or book for that matter.

All the critiques I've seen of PLURIBUS seem to come from this place of "why isn't this explaining the sci fi elements right now?" But this is more of a character study than a technical wonk kind of story. It's about loneliness and how you move through the world.

PLURIBUS finale was head-spinning. I saw part of it last night while sleep was at the edge of my brain and it was like some kind of surreal nightmare. Watched it again today and it's really brilliant.

think the epstein conversation’d be more bearable as a survivor if i thought more people talking about it nonstop were committed to the kind of radical politics that might one day lead to a just society for us but it’s mostly libs using it to dunk on big cheeto the same way they’d use elonia stuff

SILENT NIGHT DEADLY NIGHT (1984) is trashy, but there's something crazy and sort of funny about the psychosis of these old horror movies. "Yes you become a serial killer because your own parents died." They'll probably be letting those writers run the ruins of the psychology field in a few years.

If you're into horror movies taking place on Christmas, try DEAD END (2003). It's on Tubi. I remember trying this at random back from Blockbuster in high school. Never left me really. Just a weird little dark trip of a movie. Creepy and surreal.

She would've let them keep bombing Gaza while a lot of liberals looked the other way. There was no plan, no principle there. It was an appalling excuse for an election with two despicable candidates.
Fun fact: Kamala Harris wouldn’t have tried to go to war with Venezuela or attempted to annex Greenland. She also wouldn’t have tried to turn Gaza into a shitty real estate project, but it’s not like the people who refused to vote for her ever genuinely cared about that.

I don’t mean to sound extreme, but I don’t think we should have torture camps for people with criminal records either.

Normal, thoughtful, fallible humans fund genocides, huh?
Biden wasn’t perfect. Def had issues, some missteps…. Kinda like a normal, thoughtful, fallable human would.
But he wasn’t a lying POS crook. I respected him. I voted for him. I stand by him.
tRump? Fuck him in his heart. Cock in the aorta. Literally fuck his heart until it explodes.
Too much?

This is something I've noticed with the comments about journalism. Everyday writers, who often do solid work, are conflated with these billionaire fuck owners and the awful bigotry that infests things in the whole country.
I think you’re oversimplifying the Times’ and Post’s many great journalists versus the often obnoxious stances of their ownership or editorial pages; regardless, that’s a choice and like all choices it has tradeoffs! I agree that I’d love to be able to pay a couple bucks for individual articles!

BEST WISHES TO ALL on Shudder is some A-grade horror. This director Yuta Shimotsu is apparently really new, but this blows a lot of other recent movies out of the water completely. Totally deranged stuff. I mean that positively.

He does not need a distraction. This is his second term. Anyone who doesn’t know this already cannot be taken seriously. Who’s gonna impeach him? He’s not doing imperialism, transphobia, racism, etc as a distraction from Epstein. He’s been like this since he first took office back in 2017

I've never really been the type to be like "the real world is too depressing so I don't want depressing fiction." I read Cormac McCarthy to relax. There's something soothing in the honesty.

To the liberals who hound me saying “oh you’re to thank for trumps term then brilliant ideology”
Why should I have to pick between a fascist who wants me dead, and a fascist who wants me dead but is blue? Is the middle eastern children bombings the price for peace?? Christ

Got to be DIE MY LOVE and EDDINGTON for movies. And Joe Hill's new book KING SORROW has been completely enthralling.
2025 has been a rough year. What's one piece of art that's brought you absolute joy despite everything?

What Trump said about Rob Reiner is just trolling anyway. He wants all the attention on himself and, as an added bonus, for the conversation to be dumbed down to focus solely on his social media incendiary bullshit. I'm really just sick of giving the guy what he wants.
