📣 NEW BIORXIV ALERT!! 🚨

Using WE MD, linguistic pathway clustering, dynamical network analyses, and HDXMS we reveal a hidden allosteric network within the SARS2 spike S1 domain and predict how the D614G mutation impacts this network!

D614G reshapes allosteric networks and opening mechanisms of SARS-CoV-2 spikes
The SARS-CoV-2 spike glycoprotein binds human epithelial cells and enables infection through a key conformational transition that exposes its receptor binding domain (RBD). Experimental evidence indic...

Just a friendly reminder as we go into the holidays:

Folks don't have to explain to you why they don't drink.

If you offer them a drink and they decline, don't ask them why. It's not your business.

Just offer them something without alcohol to drink instead. And move on.

Supramolecular Carbohydrate Assemblies with Tunable Glycan Surfaces
Synthetic cellulose-based oligomers assemble into supramolecular nanomaterials with a molecularly controlled, dense presentation of carbohydrates on their surfaces, serving as biological cues.

Academia is a really racist and sexist place. Larry Summers, as the president of Harvard, epitomized that racism and sexism but he is not unique. That's why we needed DEI.

lets all be whistle blowers
“Short bursts indicate an ICE sighting. Long whistles indicate agents making arrests. If you hear the whistle and you’re undocumented, said [Whitney Hu, a community activist and organizer with South Brooklyn Mutual Aid], ‘you hide. And if you’re somebody who’s not, you go to the street.’”
As ICE Street Raids Ramp Up, New Yorkers Stock Up On Whistles
Taking a cue from Chicago, community groups have distributed thousands of whistles in recent weeks — a grassroots system people in other cities have adopted to help neighbors sound the alarm.

What strikes me about the Summers-Epstein emails?

Young women in science often walk away from exchanges thinking "did he mean it like that? he probably is just from a different time"

anddd nope. they know what they are saying, why they are saying it, and they are achieving their intended impact.

I can reassure the New York Times that networks of mutual protection, and misogynist retaliation efforts that benefit abusive men at the expense of the young women they prey upon, are very much still intact post-Me Too.
This is nauseating: “As the emails stretch through the years, they show how that protected realm vanished into the mists of time, pulled under by the rising forces of the internet and the #MeToo movement.” A “Gone With the Wind” framing for sexual abuse and harassment.
Seriously, what is wrong with these people?
