The balance that government has to strike is, as you are aptly demonstrating, motorists, regardless of whether they drive an ICE or an EV, do just think that everyone else should bear your costs forever. As more people drive EVs they will become as politically powerful as ICE drivers.

The thing I remember about the fuel protest was Paul Mertons line. "People aren't panic buying, panic buying is going out for bread and coming back with curtains..."
Indeed. Do people not remember the fuel protests here in the UK? Or just over the Channel? I'm not saying it has been the right decision but it should be quite obvious that the problem is 'motorists get angry'.
