A tax on multi-million-pound properties, while welcome, is not going to erode the extraordinary wealth of those at the top of our society – nor their grip over our democracy."

Zoe Grunwald spot on analysis of Budget. It’s basically stay as you are. Welcome end to two child cap; limited mansion tax on rich. But the massive growth of wealth for the few with stagnation or worse for the many is untouched. Balancing act for MPs and markets
The Lead's budget verdict: technocratic tweaks to a broken system
Lifting the two-child benefit cap is welcome, but Rachel Reeves' tax and spend plans fall far short of the financial shake up this country needs

The focus on the civil rights movement in the US - my son did it at school, in massive detail - occludes the civil rights story here in the UK. That British heroes are not known while everyone can (rightly) name Rosa Parks is very depressing. #blackhistory #Britishhistory
Prepping for teaching, and I'm appalled to discover how *little* detailed research exists on the Bristol Bus Boycott.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, but it's no wonder there is so little awareness of the history of Black civil rights activism in the UK. Just a vicious cycle of ignorance.

Every time politicians mention dodgy Covid contracts it's to point out the amount of taxpayers ££ wasted. Fine, but these faulty PPE deals also cost the lives of literally hundreds of health/care staff. This never gets an utterance. Lost cash is not the most important consequence of this corruption.

Horrifying.

I hope people are finally waking up how right-wing Lammy is, behind the cuddly demeanour. He is arguably the most core Blue Labour figure in the Cabinet.
Sorry, what now? Personally I tend to think this government suggesting scrapping the right to appeal is potentially an even bigger issue with Lammy's reported proposals than the idiotic idea of getting rid of juries. This would be dangerous territory. #r4today

Every economist rolls their eyes when politicians use the Household Budget analogy, but it remains hugely seductive to bad politicians and stupid journalists.
The very first thing the Prime Minister does is use the household budget metaphor.

A metaphor - this report into BBC coverage - said could be "easily misleading."

Why is the government trying to mislead the country?

Evidence of Farage’s unabashed youthful racism has been in the public domain since at least 2013, yet somehow he has been allowed to remain part of the British political conversation. The fact he wasn’t driven back under a rock years ago has emboldened racists across the country to spread hatred.

So, on the same day that we hear that a judge has been removed from a politically-sensitive case without explanation, we also discover that the Govt is going to end most jury trials.

Nothing to see here, chaps. Nothing at all.
