I feel like the last couple decades of "is representation good or not?" discourse missed more important questions of "how fragile is representation?", "what do we do when multiple industries eliminate it as an intentional move against us?" and "how can we sustain queer artists when shit goes south?"
"According to the report, [...]during the 2024-25 television season, queer characters increased across platforms by 4%, bringing the total to 489. However, the Thursday report found that 41% of those characters will not return." www.thewrap.com/glaad-where-...
Nearly Half of All LGBTQ+ Characters Will Disappear From TV Next Season, GLAAD Study Finds
The 2024-25 TV season recorded 489 queer characters across broadcast, cable and screenings, but cancellations and plot find a deep decline to come

When disabled activists say that our disability doesn't exist just in our bodyminds but in society's failure to accomodate them, we aren't just describing how we think disability works, we are making a demand for a world that treats people better.

genuinely, the best thing for my body image here has been exposure to a huge variety of people being shamelessly into bodies like mine.
fat thirsting has done more for the improvement of my body image than labeling fat bodies as a "fetish"

Total nuclear disarmament NOW, forcibly reform army and police into a National Civic Works Corps and completely overhaul American infrastructure, all 1 percenters imprisoned for the crime of hoarding and their assets seized, landlords stripped of their property, prison otherwise abolished
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

With current pledges, the world's on track for 2.6°C of warming in 2100 compared to preindustrial levels.

10 years ago, before the Paris agreement, it was 3.6°C

20+ years ago, we thought it would be 4-5°C

So 2.6°C is better, but the problem is that climate impacts are way worse than we predicted.
World still on track for catastrophic 2.6C temperature rise, report finds
Fossil fuel emissions have hit a record high while many nations have done too little to avert deadly global heating

I think there is an idea on here that Access to Medical Transition is the most radical/root Material Demand, which is why there is a certain anger when that framing gets questioned. But I believe that while obviously access to medical transition is part of the agenda it's far from the most important

Worth a reminder. Founding elites of the u.s. were utterly rancid, but their major fear was British rule collapsing to popular revolt they couldn't control. The British empire's rulers were not seriously anti-slavery — they'd invade Haiti to reimpose it at gunpoint in the 1790s — or pro-indigenous.
In the 1760s-1770s, the British Empire's hold on its American colonies was rocked by revolts and riots, many against slavery and press gangs, many multiracial and radical.

The gentry "founding fathers" were terrified, so they sought to co-opt "independence" in a way that preserved their power...

People want identity shortcuts for "who is worth listening to" and "which ideas are correct" and I implore you all to abandon that impulse, because that's not the world we live in.

Listen to the marginalized because our voices are erased, but also... think. Judge by word and deed.
