yapped so much about this, a series I love, that this is the first week we didn't do Out of Frame lol
Normally, we do smaller sends on Tuesdays, but we made an exception for @kambole.bsky.social's exceptional review of the Chainsaw Man movie.

Love is a dog from hell
We review Chainsaw Man: The Movie – Reze Arc, a dazzling feature which is at its most spectacular at its quietest.

🧵This 58-year-old nurse from Maryland is seen being violently dragged along the ground by officials in Ghana.

Trump deported her there.

This abhorrent & disgusting abuse of a woman who saved American lives and cared for injured and ill Americans for 30 years.

All the details below are worse.

genuinely one of the most entertaining conversations I’ve been a part of (and there’s a second part coming next Tuesday)
Several weeks back, @kambole.bsky.social had the opportunity to speak with indie animation legends Signe Baumane and Bill Plympton – ostensibly about their Metrograph curation, but really (in the end) about a little bit of everything.

See it in re:frame #34, out now:
New York animation according to Signe Baumane and Bill Plympton
Picking the brain of two iconic independent animators about their curated Metrograph animation fest.

was just a couple of months ago that an animation director said to me how this exact sequence inspired the characterisation on their own project (Hades 2 trailer). considering Nagamine's work in the most influential anime series of the past couple decades, probably much more where that came from
awful to hear that Tatsuya Nagamine has passed away at 53. this is perhaps narrowing a pretty broad filmography but man, did his work as director on Dragon Ball Super: Broly reignite a love of that series to a level I hadn’t felt since I was a kid. RIP

RIP to anime director Tatsuya Nagamine. One of the finest adventure anime directors of the modern era. He helped breath new life into long-running series and made them feel altogether vital again. The current One Piece boom wouldn't have been possible in the same way without him.
