Early in my transition an older punk cis guy gruffly told me that he may not get every term right but he would fuck up any bigot who threatened me.

He remains a dear friend. Most of the liberals who made a point of emphasizing how valid I was went terf the moment I contradicted them on anything.

I’ll take someone who doesn’t know all the right terms but will go THROUGH someone before they let someone hurt me.

Vs someone who knows all the right terms and thinks I’m valid. But really at the end of the day

“Trans women are men in dresses when we get down to it. “

Hands down. Every time.

A particular delusion of the liberal gentry, sadly influential even at this late hour, is that table manners somehow preclude someone from truly being a fascist, or increase the likelihood of their redemption. They do not.

...was a sign that a work of media might have something *real* to say to me, whether or not it was *uplifting.* I didn't resent these works for making me uncomfortable; it was why I valued them! There's something to be said for media that discomforts you and then offers no immediate resolution.

A big part of why I gravitated to the media I did, in my teens and 20s (and nowadays as well) is linked to this. I was raised in a media environment that largely tried to downplay, dismiss and erase anything especially dark or heavy. The ability to speak honestly to darker themes...

The thing that bothers me about "Cozy horror" outside of any taxonomy and on a personal level is that I honestly find a lot of comfort in horror as is, even with some of the more extreme subgenres. There's something reassuring and cathartic about acknowledging darker themes, if that makes sense? 🎃

Hey. Hey you. Yeah, you.

Stop trying to fight fascism with fat jokes. Targeting people based on weight makes you an asshole, and honestly reflects a mindset that's a lot closer to those fascists than you'd probably like to admit.

Indigeneity isn't a nationalist category (as Marxists exclaim) but a condition imposed by settler colonialism, much like proletarianization. The French aren't “indigenous” to Paris or Marseille. Land isn't merely a “mode of production,” but is also imbued by social relations.

this is old but no joke one of the reasons why i have said i am terrible for some degree of pre-transes is that i just cant truck with the "but what if im not pretty" anxiety because like. well what if. what if its fine to be kind of a weird looking woman who sucks. what if thats worth Being Happy.

"boys are ugly but girls are perfect" is actually more misogynist than anything else cuz....why am I allowed to be ugly? Why can't my trans girlfriends be ugly slobs? Why can't a black girl show up with unkempt hair in a messy bun? Why is "ugliness" the realm of men?

I think that a lot of this, on a sort of macro, cultural-enforcement level, is how much it fucking sucks trying to rebuild oneself after being forced into adulthood without trans care. It turns the body horror and amplified body issues outward into a sex-pessimism.

CLR James, of course, touches upon it in BLACK JACOBINS, but his particular focus, bordering on obsession, on Toussaint L'Ouverture glossed over the fact that he and his successors like Jean-Jacques Dessalines reimposed forced labor!

I'm not actually aware of any work—Marxist, anarchist, Black radical—that deals with Haiti in terms of communization theory, in terms of the only example in history of a self-emancipation/self-abolition of a whole class, that being the enslaved. It's part of my current writing.

For folks hoping for a nuremberg moment, I thought this video essay by Jacob Geller did a really great job of moving through the fantasy toward a real reckoning with what, well, real reckoning might look like

If it was some kind of thing where only the very rich, and those lucky handpicked souls they favor, get the benefits... Eh. I might wind up very pro-death and in favor of keeping death egalitarian. ;p But if this is a choice someone like me is allowed to make, we're probably not dealing with that!
erythrophyte.bsky.social
Man, I would NOT get bored if I knew I would last, at minimum, as long as the planetary biosphere itself. I am capable of dealing with loss and grief here and now; I don't see why that would change. My sense of meaning is very flexible and robust to this.

and that, needless to say, is a fate worse than silently suffering through the discourse itself and just blocking anybody who gets too obnoxious with it on your feed.
erythrophyte.bsky.social
The problem with finding yourself in the "fuck this entire discourse actually, everyone involved should rethink their lives" is there's no way to take that stand without risking coming off as some kind of milquetoast Both Sides type

But if you tell me you love my voice, because it sounds so natural and femme unlike yours, which you hate... I'm going to want to exit the conversation as swiftly and quietly as possible, because I did not sign up to be placed on a pedestal, let alone to be a weapon you use to beat yourself with.
erythrophyte.bsky.social
If you tell me I have a nice voice, I'm going to be touched! If you tell me I have a "passing" voice, I'm going to be uncomfortable (passing is something other people do to you, not an innate quality you possess). If you tell me you envy my voice, that feels a little weird.
erythrophyte.bsky.social
I am deeply uncomfortable when people compliment me by putting themselves down, yeah. This has happened a lot around voice stuff especially, when coming from other trans fems. My natural range is similar to my mother's, and I've never bothered with voice training because of it.
