Wooo! National Weather Service bots now available on Bluesky. Go follow the relevant ones for you!
OK...the NWS Bot collection is now fully populated and ready to go. I'm sure bugs will come up along the way, but I think it is 95%+ stable.

There's an index page at nws-bot.us including a map (borrowed from NWS) to find the right bot for the area you want to follow.

idea: halloween haunted house but instead of jumpscares and gore it's mundane household panic. like just now when i started a full load of laundry and then couldn't find my phone

Just gonna once again share this feed that automatically surfaces every Gift Link or Gift Article on Bluesky across many news outlets. This is basically how I get my news now: slow, generally very good, with a recommendation.

heck yeah. the steam deck and switch are both great, but i still get that nagging "i'd rather be playing this on a pc" feeling too often. can't articulate exactly why, but i never felt that with the vita. perfect form factor, great games, such a cool little device

I want to have a talk with the people who decided that the "sign in" button on websites should always be super hidden and complicated to reach. Do you never sign in to the services you use? Am I damaging your metrics by using your product? Who hurt you

one of the pleasures of the 1990s was for your parents to get a computer and brag to everyone how good their kid is at the computer, and then ask you why you like the computer so much, and tell you to get off the fucking computer every day until you moved out

watching the toy story nfl game right now and absolutely mesmerized, there's so much really cool tech involved that is going to be amazing in like 5 years but right now it's just hilariously janky and fun
there is an NFL game you can watch on ESPN OR on disney plus you can watch that NFL same game live as a toy story styled animation, with toy story characters featured on the sidelines

i’ve joined bluesky as a software developer. i already announced it on twitter and copypasting doesn’t feel right so i’ll link to my thread: x.com/dan_abramov/.... since bluesky is still invite-only, for now i’ll probably keep using twitter for announcement-y stuff and bluesky for more random posts

When people are nostalgic about Ye Olde Internette and wonder why we can't recapture that, this is why: the old internet was atomized **and that was good, actually**. But no one's gonna become a billionaire off of 3 million different self-hosted niche interest phpBB sites so here we are.
This is good, but just slightly misses the point — we don’t just have to kill the idea of the “one killer app” everyone uses for community online. It’s recognizing that we’ve *always* been using _lots_ of sites & apps. https://www.newyorker.com/culture/cultural-comment/we-dont-need-a-new-twitter

my favorite bug on this site is when the Home button takes you back to the chrome new tab page or wherever you were before, like it's saying "that's enough for today". someone reported it but i hope it's never fixed
