My esteemed spouse Delia Sherman does not indulge in social media to the rapt extent that I do. But you can keep up with our shenanigans here:

We're actually in a Chagford coffeeshop across the bookstore - gotta stoke up first! It was a wonderful & unexpected meeting. The cherry on the sundae was Sarah McIntyre & I also discovering that we'd both gone to the same highly quirky women's college!
There was a chance meeting between authors I happen to publish & they connected over knowing me. 🤣 My very own crossover episode. I found that delightful & funny!

This has been my favorite part about the race! The GOP position is: “remember how we lied about Obama being an African communist? Well this Mamdani guy REALLY is an African communist!”

I like that republicans keep calling mamdani a “literal communist” because they’ve been calling everyone to the left of william mckinley a communist for a hundred years and they need to distinguish

I propose a national holiday where all government authorities have to line up so we can throw sandwiches at them. Like a secular medieval carnival. Would keep out the worst narcissists.
Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, your decision today hinges on a very simple question that goes right to the soul of what America is all about: should a man be allowed, out of the goodness of his heart, to give a delicious sandwich to a member of our law enforcement community?

sincerely wondered for a long time if there's some sort of thing in law, presumably in latin, that can dismiss a case specifically with a verdict amounting to "oh come the fuck on now"
The defense team presses Lairmore on whether the sandwich really 'exploded.' They return to the photo of the sandwich and wrapper on the ground.

"That sandwich hasn't exploded at all, has it?" defense asks.

"It looks like a little bit is coming out towards the bottom," Lairmore replies.

Please, PLEASE, I am begging you as both a parent and someone who is sick of all this THIS, go vote for your school boards. Even if you don't have kids, that's how these reactionary dipshits got their feet in, that's where the book bans and library cuts start.

For the Atlantic, I wrote about Christopher Marlowe, romantic ideals of genius, and how Stephen Greenblatt has finally pushed his speculations too far.
