Marimar Martinez was the first US citizen shot by ICE.

They claimed she was a terrorist. Said she was brandishing a weapon.

They lied. Video footage exonerated her and showed the ICE agent shot her five times.

He bragged to other agents “five shots, 7 holes”.

Text messages and a moved SUV: How the government’s case against a Chicago woman shot by a Border Patrol agent fell apart | CNN
A wide grin was plastered on Marimar Martinez’s face Thursday as she thanked her attorneys outside an Illinois courtroom and told reporters, “I’m just blessed. I’m happy.”

i feel like the viral bus thread resonates because at every step of the way you're like "ok surely this will be resolved shortly, any second now," which seems like what all the passengers are also thinking. then the fact that the situation doesn't resolve and the bus just keeps going is an Allegory

It took me so long to figure out that thread was not a metaphor for the USA right now and was in fact someone live posting their own kidnapping.

Do not forget that people are GOOD.
People WANT to help.
People have evolved to be in community and do teamwork.

The jackasses in control of the government want us to forget that. Don't let them get what they want.

I'm gonna say this with all the kindness in my heart: you aren't going to survive if you don't let your life have room for other things.

This is not a short term fight where we can just go 24/7 and then it will be over. We've got YEARS ahead of us. Take a break. Hydrate. Go bake something. Breathe.

A Black man was killed by ICE (off duty) in Los Angeles on New Year’s Eve. And like Renée Good, he was an American citizen. But most people have not heard about Keith Porter.

I need y’all to realize this. Black people experience this lack of visibility all the time when it comes to being victims.

My mother's death was both slow and expected. Writing her obituary was still one of the hardest things I've ever done, and also it wasn't well written. In the midst of extreme trauma and shock, Becca Good has shown us who her wonderful wife was, and also who her killers are. That is so hard to do.

I wish people were as horrified about immigrants being kidnapped and killed in detention centers as they are about this shooting at the same time I am very glad there is finally some larger momentum building against this and I hope it sustains.

It is absolutely outrageous to wait a week to block further action. It is absolutely outrageous to wait even a minute. We need to take action right now.

I think it’s also true that loneliness among women has historically been treated as an individual problem, while loneliness among men is treated as a societal problem. That, in turn, comes from an assumption that women are supposed to earn the company of others while men are entitled to it.
men’s loneliness gets “more airtime”?

baby I have lived the past three decades of my life witnessing corporate media elevate men’s loneliness into a full-blown balls-to-the-wall CRISIS once every 4-5 years

“more airtime” is hilarious

Too far away from the shore to look at waves, too close to the shore for the good thunderstorms in summer and the real snow in winter. But I've been in my apartment for a long time, so it only costs me twenty six jillion dollars to live here.
The worst thing about living in Boston is that it costs twenty-seven jillion dollars to live here.

The second worst thing is that the geography sends all the good weather north of the city, so we never get the good storms :(

Good news? From this Supreme Court?

Shutting down the government is a big deal. People have been hurt in big ways as a result of the decision. To have that suffering be for nothing—to re-open the government without actually having protected people’s health insurance and economic well-being—is unconscionable.
