It would be awesome if we could stop re-inventing every awful thing from the past, unlearning every brutal lesson, dismantling every hard-won solution

Somehow worse than the apartment I looked at next to college my freshman year that had a clause in the lease: "if you are considering suicide, talk to us first."
"It is against the TOS to be talked into suicide by our LLM" is possibly the most evil tech bro thing I've ever read
Additionally, OpenAI argues its not liable because Raine, by using ChatGPT for self-harm, broke its terms of service

somebody on here suggested awhile back that a pretty compelling 2028 Democrat campaign promise would be "on day one I will deploy a WPA-scale army of forensic accountants across every square inch of the federal government" and I think about that every day
It’s crazy to think about the crimes we’re going to learn about after this regime ends.

We’re already hearing about Watergate level crimes every week. Imagine what will come out after it’s over.

We’re going to need a full accounting of all that’s been done in violation of the constitution.

This human centipede of generative AI funding has gotten to the point where it is impossible to not fail, spectacularly. It's mathematically guaranteed to fail, explosively.

A bailout would be about the same as a bandaid on a sucking chest wound.

I don’t want to hear about norms, I don’t want to hear about looking forward not back, I don’t want to hear about “bipartisanship”

I want the filibuster gone, the court packed, new states, and a top to bottom cleaning of the federal government that ends with a lot of people in jail

Frankly, I think authors should hurry to get their claims in before the bankruptcy talk starts.
AI advocates have warned that if every author in the class action filed a claim, it would "financially ruin" the entire industry.
Authors celebrate “historic” settlement coming soon in Anthropic class action
Advocates fear such settlements will “financially ruin” the AI industry.

The "He's a hebephile not a pedophile" argument is giving immense "The A in AR-15 stands for ArmaLite, nor Assault!" energy.

Both are a distinction without a difference resulting in irreparable harm to children while the MAGA enablers think they've made a point.

I want to very gently say something, and I hope nobody will be mad: If somebody on the internet says something that is NOT about politics and NOT about how terrible everything is, it’s a kindness not to reflexively make a comment (in jest or not) that brings it back to those things.

I like how full text search of every book and human thought ever was a SOLVED PROBLEM in 2001, and now dicks at search engines and my own phone – a piece of silicon faster to respond than God was ever imagined in scripture – prevent it from working, _as a retroactive infantilizing design choice_.

I've noticed the opposing team's fans only cheer when the opponents score on us. To win those fans over, I recommend we score on ourselves repeatedly; that will surely make them so happy they'll start supporting us. And I'm sure all our fans will keep cheering for us—who else is there to cheer for?

Glad none of them are mine, and also happy to donate to any primary challengers.
Here are the Democrats who sold out the American public:

Sen. Dick Durbin
Sen. Angus King (independent who caucuses with Democrats)
Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto
Sen. Jacky Rosen
Sen. John Fetterman
Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia
Sen. Jeanne Shaheen
Sen. Maggie Hassan

Vote them out.

Panera’s moderately caffeinated lemonade was loosely associated with 2 deaths before it was taken off market.

This article alone has 4 examples of ChatGPT encouraging young people to commit suicide, and OpenAI’s own public stats estimate over a million users discuss suicide with ChatGPT each week.

Let them fail, do universal bailouts to every American instead.
BREAKING: OpenAI is requesting US government support to help guarantee financing for the massive investments in AI chips and data centers it needs for expansion, per Bloomberg.

I found the best boots at the thrift store today. My child pointed out that I have nowhere to wear them and she's totally right, but I bought them anyway because I knew I'd regret it for years if I didn't. For $14 I'll figure out the logistics later.

I feel like Bluesky making an announcement about changes to the product on a blog post instead of via Bluesky posts is a really telling statement about how frivolous they consider the product itself. To not even summarize the post in the thread seems wild to me.

That’s a fantastic comparison, because the reason they added lead to gasoline was just to increase convenience a tiny bit, and they’ve poisoned the world in the process.

The good news is: Impossible as it may seem, we banned it worldwide and its bad effects are now mostly gone.

Makes you think.

I think any story about Trump's autocracy should be mostly about the people and institutions who failed to stop it. This guy isn't a political genius, everything else just happens to be rotten. 'Toddler Consolidates Power In Household' is a story about incompetent parents, not shrewd maneuvering

Look, I do actually WANT to talk to my computer, but I DON'T want AI in the mix so much more that I'll end up turning off all of these features immediately.
This is the future of Windows. Microsoft wants to rewrite Windows to turn computers into AI PCs that you talk to. It's now bringing AI features to all Windows 11 PCs today, in a bid to convince you to talk to your PC and let AI control it. Full details 👇 www.theverge.com/news/799768/...

Related point: in college I tutored PreMed students in Gen Chem and let's just say it gave me a HEALTHY distrust that doctors know what they're doing.
Abled people don't realize, because they don't go to the ER, that even having a stroke or cancer doesn't at all guarantee a doctor will try to figure out what is wrong.

There's a good chance they'll just be given some Tylenol and told to lose weight, rest, etc.
