"What some Democrats would prefer, it seems, is a centrist manosphere of their own. (One imagines a podcast studio attached to a well-appointed gym where a bunch of white guys are discussing 'Abundance' over beta-alanine smoothies and doing pistol squats to the theme song from 'Pod Save America.')"

As far as I am concerned they are all “up” whenever the opportunity arises to primary them into the sun if they don’t call for Schumer’s ouster
@politico.com's @jordainc.bsky.social wrote that @kaine.senate.gov was "breaking with much of his caucus to advance the deal on the floor", which is tripe. 8 D votes were needed. The caucus was unified on the deal. The 8 Ds who voted for it were handpicked by Schumer because they're not up in '26.

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

look I know being an engaged citizen IS the work of democracy but it is also the work of elected officials not to create situations where everyone has to be mobilized all the time to prevent them from allowing some kind of Dickensian horror on a Sunday night while you're in between loads of laundry

@padilla.senate.gov & @schiff.senate.gov I've called your offices&left messages. I hope many others are, too. If Dems cave on ACA instead of leveraging that people are placing blame where it belongs&it's sticking, that lumpish cowardice will finally take our republic over the cliff&into the abyss
