For all the talk of coups, this much is clear: without a strong vision, Labour will face a fresh crisis of legitimacy, says Polly Toynbee

Trump demands that the UK allows American chlorinated chicken and hormone-treated meat into its supermarkets.

UK already agreed to pay more for US drugs, reduced tax on private equity managers, considering cutting tax on tech companies.

Morals aside, how is it remotely possible that Shadow Attorney General — and a serving member of the UK legislature, of any political affiliation — can lawfully take on work representing a Russian oligarch sanctioned by the UK government?
The Tories’ Shadow Attorney General, Lord Wolfson, is representing Roman Abramovich in a legal case that is delaying the transfer of £2.5bn of assets to benefit the people of Ukraine.

I’ve written to Kemi Badenoch about the conflicts of interest this raises. 👇

A nice thread in which an actual expert patiently explains why the Secretary of Health and Human Service is not simply a liar, but an especially stupid one.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has stated that the 1918 flu pandemic was caused by a lab virus from vaccine research, a defective influenza vaccine. Let’s analyze what a lie this is. First, in 1918, 107 years ago, virology was in its infancy

MAGA like to say there's no evidence implicating Trump in sexual crimes with Epstein. That's a lie. There is direct evidence, like this affidavit from a civil case that was dismissed when the girl got death threats against her.

Trump can attack the credibility of the accusations, but they exist.

It's Trump policy that U.S. tech must be globally dominant.

It's also US policy that its tech corps must be free from:

Regulation. Taxation. Fact checking and monitoring for hate lies, disinformation.

All are now being treated as attacks on the U.S. itself.

Expect this too to be retroactively censored in violation of the law. At least they are ham handed in their lawbreaking

The really dumb thing about the immigration debate is that the post-2022 surge was mostly explicable by post-Covid demand (eg overseas students), need to ensure health and care functioned as we came out of the pandemic and global factors, Russia/China. It needed careful management. Instead, panic.

The UK will celebrate net emigration and depopulation come 2027.

And by 2028 it will start to realise, with an ageing society and low growth, what a really silly thing it has done.

The right will go "pro-natalist", the centre-left will be completely stuck.

This is incredibly obviously going to be the rolling problem with a “tougher” immigration stance. We still need people to do things. And, ultimately, either we hire/retain them or the things don’t get done. Everything else is hollow rhetoric.

Dog-whistle and factually incorrect. Ladies, raise your hand if you were sexually assaulted by a boy at school? I’d wager this or a family member is most women’s first experience of sexual violence

The Times reporting what Trump said about Panorama splicing his own words, without bothering to note he’s making up a completely false allegation of putting words he didn’t say into his mouth. The lack of correction allows Trump to spread fake news, ostensibly by condemning “fake news”.
