I support Atthis Arts because of these principles.

You have to loudly support what you want to see more of in the world.
New to us?

We honor the storyteller's voice as the heart of all.

We never use genAI for anything, not to substitute for art, not for prompts, not for costs, not for ideas. We never will.

We've stood by our values, stood against abusers, stood for art, and always will.

Because we are our stories.

Knowing gaming and rpgs are a community I'm not welcome in, after spending a lifetime working my way back to it, is going to be a bleeding open wound until I die.

I still wouldn't kneel to the abuse ring. No.

And I am well used to walking wounded.

Come on, Emily, one foot in front of the other.

If you're connected, could you ask the platforms talking about AI and human translation to please share the African Translation Project? It would remove stress from a lot of people to fund and close it.

(Not saying bug anyone, just make sure they're aware?)

One of the reasons it's so much harder to publish indie books than mags (and it's real hard to run mags!) is that many writers hype things they have a chance of getting into or that will benefit them otherwise.

Not meant disrespectfully, but that's our current culture.

Oh! Thank you so much to Alasdair and Jen for the boost to the African Translation Project. We've got the second (and last) book HALF funded now, and yes, all the funds go to the Black woman owned small press in South Africa.

I totally just subscribed to #TheFullLid also - it looks great! 🎉
#TheFullLid - 21st November 2025 - Happy Friday! We're talking Hanuman Project, from Friend of the Lid @stewarthotston.com , great art from the #transart hashtag, a link to a great translation project and some crime fighting magicians to heist us into the weekend.

The next time you ask one of these writers or platforms why they're shunning me and they say, "Well IIIIII've heard..." say "but not from her."

And if they say, yes I have, say "Bullshit. I believe Emily."

Or, hey, maybe they'll give you the real answer which is anti-racism risks their access.

This is not snark. I am so deadly (from someone who publishing has almost killed twice, and who has dealt with publishing two deceased authors in their 20s) serious.
GoH and award-winning BIPOC WQTI writers are fundraising to survive.

The most independent, interesting, bold publishers are folding or scaling way back.

And you're going to have to tell the settle down / be nice / building their professional brand guys to SIT DOWN sometimes if you want any change.

Stop beating up ethical publishers or beating them into the ground when someone who hasn't bothered to understand any context or fucking ask anyone first tells you to join in beating them into the ground.
November 21, 2025 at 7:45 PM
Things are not fine in small press publishing and yes we have to talk about the power structure, the money, and the reasons they aren't changing.
November 21, 2025 at 7:40 PM
Ok let me try and be more logically succinct:

- People can support or not support whatever they want to.

- But when the people who specifically talk about human translation won't boost a human translation project because Emily is involved.

Here's my question:
November 21, 2025 at 3:52 PM
I'll repeat: EVERY time I've tried to help empower a Black editor or publisher - EVERY TIME - I've been told people can't support because the BIPOC aren't doing enough work. Then when that doesn't fly, accused of wrongdoing.

Yes, trust is necessary in publishing. But how do you know this is legit?

This is exactly the kind of post that makes a *difference* especially if people start seeing more of them. Just a few words; say it's important, ask people to contribute or share, if they can.

And no need to repost me, people can also just grab the link and add it:

African-language literature isn't very accessible in many English-speaking areas, meaning some really incredible voices aren't being heard.

We can change that in the easiest way possible- throwing money at a project.

Can you toss in a few bucks to move this along?

Can you share this?
Also, sorry, one graphic has a higher %. I'm a bit worn thin. This one is accurate.

I've seen literary communities raise $2820 in an hour. Frequently. I know there are a lot of fundraisers, but we've been at this *8 months* for a Black woman owned small press; can we get a rally and close this up?
November 21, 2025 at 4:49 AM
Everyone's out shouting about compliance and sycophancy and all these things they won't do a damn thing about when it's in their own circles where it's much more likely to make a difference.
November 21, 2025 at 4:46 AM
Thank you for the lovely donation - if we can get to 45% I'll update the graphic.

Hey. I'm hesitant to use people's names but Yilin Wang, Bogi Takács, Somto Ihezue, Malka Older, Zig Zag Claybourne, Indrapramit Das - many others (!) have encouraged people to support.

Who can start a rally? 💚

Feels like the current state of genre writing / publishing culture is hold the line - hard - at any cost - including *real people* - on not discussing anything we might be condoning.

And you can't fight fascism that way.

You can only strengthen it.
November 20, 2025 at 7:04 PM
For thought:

1) Is it wrong for me to say that to my knowledge no cis white men (writers or platforms) have talked about the African Translation Project.

2) Is it wrong that, in eight months, that's true.

3) Would their involvement impact closing up the fundraising?
November 20, 2025 at 7:01 PM
I'd love to see a rally and close up this final $2820 before we head into the ninth month of the effort.

The translation is in work because of an upcoming opportunity, but I'd *really* prefer we pay the writer and translator. $2820 more from the English speaking world, if anyone is willing to help.

Periodic reminder that I've been saying for over a year that genre is being run by a racist misogynistic abuse ring and no people of privilege will talk about it or take any accountability in their coddling of the people who won't. (Including their totally nonsensical or self-centered reasoning.)
