It is possible be incandescently angry at some Democrats without using the language of America’s Dumbest Performative Leftists and I strongly urge people to understand this.

So this year is the first time I'm using a CPA to do my taxes and take care of everything else, and apparently shit is already bad enough six months out that she felt the need to call me just now and ask if I'm saving up for my tax bill due next April. lololol. fml, I guess.

I've lost count of the number of times I've seen rando comments today about AIPAC and/or Israel being responsible for yesterday's vote in the Senate, but I am holding firm to the belief than antisemitism-but-leftishly is really not great.
It's wild how many people are wholly willing to straight up say "Israeli money secretly controls our elected officials and this no this does not make me antisemetic."

I mean no disrespect to the people who keep making this argument, but the more I hear the "leverage" argument, the more that I'm convinced that it's patently ridiculous because if the shutdown was actually a real leverage capable of moving votes, Thune & Johnson would've caved by week 2.
No one is really going to pay attention to the ACA subsidy vote because what matters is Democrats had leverage, people saw them use it, and people saw them give it away

All judgments of the effectiveness of midterms strategy must be considered in the context of Trump doing a YMCA dance party while under federal indictment & winning the popular vote
Yes - this is a loss because Democrats have now signed on to ACA cuts as a complicit party and once again made it a less effective issue for the mid terms
From that perspective, this would be a failure, right? Because the Dems lose the narrative that they did everything to stand in the way of ACA cuts.

I just got my rate set for my employer's plan this morning. I work for what's famously one of the most generous companies in the world when it comes to benefits, and my monthly premium is going to be nearly two grand! Everyone in the country is going to see their rate skyrocket!
Open enrollment for health insurance kicked off where I work and it's just hysterically bad lol
Like don't cry for me because I'll survive, but holy shit if this is representative of the price hikes *so many folks* are just gonna be hellfucked on an entirely different scale than before.

Supreme Court won’t hear challenge to landmark gay marriage ruling
The announcement indicates there is not an appetite among the high court’s conservative majority to revisit one of the court’s most significant decisions in recent years.

super important story from this weekend that lots of people are gonna miss because of, uh, other events eating up their social media feeds. the network behind Kennedy's "success" at HHS is working hard to do a lot more damage.

ugh, she's one of the worst accounts On Here, but yeah, she's definitely correct. I'm assuming at this point that this is 100% true. I commented several times over the last week that folks were VERY likely to start folding on both sides of the aisles while flights were being intentionally grounded.

not super great to see the number of folks On Here blaming Jewish Senators' alleged allegiance to "Israel" as the reason this happened! I've seen some version of this comment out in the wild like 20 times already this morning. we are NOT beating the antisemitism-but-leftishly allegations, are we?

If anyone came away with the conclusion "Dems caved" you're completely ignoring essentially the entire Dem apparatus shitting on this.
The reason why this passed is because the GOP hates people + a few Dem squishies!

The DNC is openly trashing this deal, the House Dems are calling the Senate "the enemy," yet surely this was all a highly coordinated feint by Schumer who openly opposed it as a shit deal…

I'm really still trying to figure out why they are after Schumer/ Jeffries when Republicans have been saying for days that they had some democrat Senate votes. It sounds like 8 dummies are already crossing the aisle by their own big grown selves on their own volition. Nobody can hold their hand.

Fun facts: Chuck Schumer didn't negotiate this deal. Chuck Schumer isn't voting for this deal. Chuck Schumer isn't running for leadership next Congress.

absolutely batshit insane take, jfc. *wanting* holiday travel "chaos" is literally saying you want people to die on planes for a shutdown because that's actually what happens in that situation. this is all a fuckin game to some people, man. these are human lives we're talking about here.

I said it last night, but if you want to know WHY the cave happened, then please take 30 seconds to go check out the fed subs on Reddit. however angry you THINK you are right now, I promise you it is not even 10% as angry as the incandescent, white hot rage feds have been directing at Senators.
I just note it because my mentions have been full of people saying federal employees can fuck off and find different jobs for a year because keeping the government shut down until republicans cave on subsidies is just that important.

Not that there's a bunch of us, but I think a contingent of feds on here have been incentivized to just block 50% of the users here tonight, because man "you should eat shit indefinitely for undetermined reasons so I can poast about The Revolution" is a taek I guess, but not one I want to see
I, a 15-year career federal employee, am responsible for ACA subsidies being taken away.
Not the tens of millions of people who voted to give Donald Trump's Republican Party control of the American government, no, they're blameless victims. It's my fault and I should suffer for it.
fuck this shit.

jfc, how can a tenured government professor at Georgetown be this conspiracy-addled?? The DNC, House Dems, and Chuck Schumer are all trashing the deal as bad & crooked af, all reporting suggests the 8 Dems went straight to Thune with this, but this is still all some master feint by Senate Dems??
Assume all the yes and no votes from Dem senators are strategic and not sincere votes. The party caucus made a decision. No way to know how many were in favor. Then the caucus decided who would vote yes and no based on what would protect each of them politically the most. That’s how this works.

I am not even kidding, we are already treading WELL into "omg a SSA employee just tried to assassinate a Congressperson" territory here, and I feel like people need to take a minute to appreciate just how much *our* anger is paling in comparison to the federal workers who are not getting paid atm.
like, if anybody wants to know why they are folding now, please go check out the federal employee subs at Reddit. you will definitely learn why pdq. no matter how angry & loud you think we're gonna get after they "fold," I can assure you it will never even be a fraction as angry & loud as those feds
