After everything I am coming to the conclusion the really important discourse is the popular culture one because having good (not necessarily interesting or unique) popular culture takes is the best proxy for good political takes.

This is exactly what senate Republicans want to spend the next year doing confirmation of people even less qualified than the ones they already confirmed.
This isn't a way to get political influence - republicans have no power in Oregon and this doesn't buy him good will with dems.
