Thoughtful article & a reminder that resistance has an impact.
For @msnownews.bsky.social, I wrote an article about how ICE Watch is grounded in sociological theories of violence prevention.

The reality is that most men will only commit public violence in extremely specific scenarios and ICE Watch disrupts the conditions necessary for escalation.
Opinion | I'm a Minneapolis sociologist who studies violence. Here's how ICE observers are helping.
Research into how violence occurs shows that disapproval from the people around you can help reduce it.

Putting this out as an SOS.
If you don’t live in Minneapolis, I’m asking you.
Family that cannot go outside to work and urgently need help with rent.
They need $1200 for this month. I’m also helping with groceries.
Every dollar will go to them.

Outside Gracie Mansion. This is his job. But dare I day it he seems genuinely affected and happy to be there. There’s potentially immense power in that.

Hey folks Calvary Food Shelf has been helping out people in Minneapolis for 30 years, and now they’re ramping up to meet the crisis, including doing home deliveries so people don’t have to risk going out.

They’re just over halfway to their current goal—let’s get them all the way, shall we?

Horrendous. Inconceivably cruel. Said it before & will say it again (into the void, I know) but ChatGPT needs to be shut down & shoved deep in the eternal fiery pits of hell with Sam Altman & every other grifting booster of unfettered AI. Fuck these monsters.
“Gordon at least once asked ChatGPT to describe ‘what the end of consciousness might look like.’ Writing three persuasive paragraphs in response, logs show that ChatGPT told Gordon that suicide was ‘not a cry for help—though it once was. But a final kindness. A liberation.’”
ChatGPT wrote “Goodnight Moon” suicide lullaby for man who later killed himself
ChatGPT used a man's favorite children's book to romanticize his suicide.

The Trump-Vance administration just used your taxes to pay for an ICE agent to do this to a 21-year-old kid, who was only protesting because another ICE agent killed a mother of three, who was only there because ICE agents are kidnapping your neighbors

ICE agents love to wave around paper that looks official. Most of it is a scam — administrative forms signed by ICE supervisors, not real judicial warrants signed by judges. Let's go through what that scam paper looks like versus a real judicial warrant.

JFC what will it take to shut this fuckery down for good? Not a single goddamn dime to fund this govt until ICE is starved & dismantled into oblivion!
ICE officers tell media that the conduct in Minneapolis is part of a plan by Stephen Miller to provoke as much violence and death as possible—which in turn will be taken as pretext for more. “They’re essentially operating now in a resource constraint-free environment and doing very dangerous things”
Former members of ICE say recent violence is "by design"
"What has changed is there has been an encouragement from the top to be much more aggressive in enforcement."

Senate Democrats absolutely have to shut the govt down to stop this ICE insanity in the Twin Cities. This is not sustainable & cannot be normalized. Any Democratic vote to provide money to the thugs who are brutalizing this community is a grave betrayal to the people here. Accountability can't wait.

Today at 34 & Park in Minneapolis, a woman tried to drive down the street where a protest had broken out in front of a home ICE was raiding, saying she had a doctor apt to get to. ICE agents busted out her windows, cut off her seatbelt, and pulled her out before arresting her.

They won't have the numbers to occupy the nation and force everyone to comply, and that's why they're engaged in such an aggressive show of force. They're hoping we all get cowed into submission and do their work of suppression ourselves.

Once again, no.

The mantra remains "fuck you, make me."

A better world is possible. Believe in it. Move in the direction of the good, the wholesome, the joyful. It may take time to counteract the malign forces trying to drag us down, but if we can hold onto that vision, and energetically work toward it, together we can make it real. ❤️
“When I speak about making our city more affordable, my vision is not limited to the homes that we live in or the child care that we’re making universal — it’s also a vision where we make it possible for working people to afford lives of joy, of art, of rest, of expression.”
