you want to know one reason people are losing trust in the media? it’s the total inability to call things what they are

some guy on YouTube: “wow this is the most corrupt shit I’ve ever seen”

the Times: “critics say it raises appearance of impropriety”

who are people going to take seriously?

I think this is unfortunately a consequence where it is actually appropriate to say

Like I said, things bode ill for your society when people start feeling like they’re being actively punished for being honest and hardworking

As a former Virginia resident, I have high confidence that they will choose the former

Both Kaine and Warner are strong contenders for lowest WAR I'm the Dem Senate caucus
Virginia senators, are we really gonna let Maryland show us up like this or are we finally gonna do something useful I am just asking

And Germany having done so to many such facilities over the rest of Europe
I think people reeeeealllly overestimate the role of trade and industrial policy in US dominance of heavy industry in the 1950s and really underestimate the importance of having dropped high explosives on every facility in Japan or Germany capable of manufacturing a ball bearing

I hate saying it and don't entirely believe it, but some part of me thinks that the Bernie Sanders 2016 primary campaign was the worst thing that ever happened to Bernie Sanders' political project
“Americans built the richest and most prosperous society ever to exist, and one part of that was the creation of an endless stream of handheld entertainments, which told them they were miserable and impoverished, and consequently the country committed immediate political and economic suicide”

Feel like this is downstream of 24-hour news networks and social media attention economy - when you are no longer space- or time-constrained, consistent answers that can be quickly summarized are less attractive than complex ones that take time to delve into
i am fascinated by the outright refusal of people in the professional political commentary class to just consider the possibility that there is no plan and that trump really is a braying idiot with the more acute case of narcissistic personality disorder on record

4️⃣ Realize that any Dem Senator not speaking out against their own caucus leadership at least as forcefully as their House counterparts are a part of the "vote no, hope yes" caucus, and are trying to play you for a fool
5️⃣ Primary the fuck out of all of them
Are you furious about Friday’s vote to give Trump more power? I am, too. Here are 3 things you can do:

1⃣ Get up. Action beats outrage.
2⃣ Speak up. Hold electeds accountable.
3⃣ Show up. Organizing together is powerful.

Join me in this fight. Your country needs you.

💯 this

The Leader, Whip, and chair of the Campaign Committee don't vote against over 75% of the caucus and keep their jobs. Those no votes were a sham - they're playing you for a fool

Primary every last one of them. Make them prove they weren't complicit
my read: he was a yes the entire time, he lied, and we should assume many of those who were hemming and hawing and saying no position or talking about the amendment deal were potential yes’s too, and this lack of clarity was all about figuring out who was falling on the grenade for the rest of them
TPM’s reporting about Peters was more accurate than his office’s statements to constituent callers, just to get a sense of how much Dems are outright at war with their own voters right now

better to pressure a "good" one who still didn't object to unanimous consent or seek to oust that entire leadership class and their consultants than to accidentally miss someone who desperately needs to be shown the door
nobody objected to unanimous consensus, and short of an outright revolt in the next few days and the deposing of schumer as minority leader, and ex-communicating of the "yes" votes, you sort of have to assume everyone was on board with this. no doubt many were not but there's no way to be sure.

Exactly 9 Senate D votes for cloture, including all of caucus leadership, and few if any of the 38 members who voted against will call on leadership to step down

And yes, by Democrats, I mean all Democrats. The entire Senate caucus. Because they should absolutely be revolting against Schumer over this right now. But they’re not going to because ultimately they’re fine with this.

When it comes to achieving the goal of making America a more fair, free, just, and equitable society - Joe Manchin was simultaneously a terrible impediment and the absolute GOAT

If you don't understand this fact, I don't want to hear your analysis about how Dems are bad at politics

Character Actress Margo Martindale
You're telling me

that Margo Martindale

and Wayne Knight

were once partners

on a team of character actors who moonlit as private investigators

to supplement film/tv income by busting bad guys with their acting skills

and this has never been adapted into the longest-running show on NBC?

Idea that just popped into my head, because I've watched too much Forensic Files

UHC CEO murder was done by professional hitman hired by his wife (who he's been living separately from). The assassin's efficacy and elusiveness are because he's a pro. Bullet carvings are a planned red herring.

According to the modern Republican Party, the only election that actually mattered was in 2010
This sort of democratic backsliding, where Republicans seek to overturn the effect of an election by reallocating powers away from positions they have lost, has become almost routine now. But it should remain shocking.
Heads up:

North Carolina Republicans just voted to strip the state's incoming Democratic governor and attorney general of key powers — passing a sweeping bill before the GOP most likely loses its veto-proof supermajority in the Legislature next year.
