The trick of these extreme religious cultures is making real life so impossibly awful that escaping into an available fantasy is very appealing, then making sure their alternate reality is the only one available.

It's really been maddening watching this play out. This isn't even satire or a joke. This is a hair's breadth away from being a literal description of what the last ten+ years have been like in the U.S.
