5/ The key thing is that everyone is different. We all have different preferences, abilities, and needs, so having multiple transportation options (sidewalks, bike & roll lanes, transit, AND cars) means that more people can get around in a way that works for them.

The most visible part of this effort is enforcement. However the other side is support. @pacificahousing.bsky.social is one organization doing this work. We’ve done an expanded outreach pilot that has gone out early mornings & evenings since the summer focused on the business corridors 🧵

Since Victoria's Centennial Square is in the news again, I thought I'd reshare this post from August. I think the revised plans are pretty good, and maybe the best we can hope for. I still think the 2024 plans were outstanding.

1/ This is Berczy Park in Toronto. It's an interesting example of a public plaza that works, unlike Centennial Square in #yyj. Why? At a glance, I'd say: places to sit in the shade, neighboring shops to buy a treat, and a sense of whimsy. All part of the new design, and all missing today.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: normal adults (who aren't pediatric medical professionals) don't spend ANY amount of time thinking about the genitals of children.
They certainly don't bend over backwards to make policing children's genitals part of their job.

Moreover we have working examples of how private and Indigenous land rights can coexist—see the Nisga'a agreement as an example. Indigenous self government can take many forms that are eminently compatible with the Canadian state, if we only have the will to negotiate in good faith around the issue.
