Also like… these people like to paint themselves as Serious Environmentalists. But if the climate crisis is as acute as they say it is, then Serious Environmentalism is going to have to abandon the model of conservation that says no green project can go forward if a single wasp nest is disturbed.

That’s actually one of the wildest things about the Bush years, looking back on it. That administration was horrible and did horrible things here and abroad, but damned if both Al Qaeda and the Taliban didn’t objectively hate us for our freedoms. Especially those we afford to women and queer folks.

It annoys me when nominal support for LGBT rights is used instrumentally to push for clout or unrelated goals. But I *really* hate it when it’s treated as basically a cringe bourgeois affectation, whether it be the right, left, or center that’s pulling out that old canard.
