A lot of well meaning cis allies will still be under the impression that your average trans girl grew up just like the boys around her. I don't think many actually understand just how frequently people picked up on how we are different and considered hurting as a victimless action

NSW Police go out of their way to approve a Neo Nazi rally — then Premier Minns uses the “stuff up” as an excuse for *more* laws restricting free speech. The whole thing stinks of a blatantly obvious stitch-up by vested interests. Pathetic.

Then sit back and watch the carnage. 😉

Every masked ICE person five years ago screamed themselves raw about how they couldn't breathe in the masks to keep people safe. Masks to harm people, meanwhile, they can breathe through very well. Must be some kind of new invention, a hate fabric.
Literally, every member of ICE looks like they've been banned from at least one bar for being creepy.

Really interesting piece about the infrastructure of education and what AI companies are doing to it:

“While private sector influence in public education has a long history, it is now taking the form of infrastructural penetration from below.”
We wrote this paper a while ago and since then OpenAI has claimed plans to be "core infrastructure" of education, Google has rammed Gemini into schools via its education platforms, and AWS showed it underpins most edtech platforms... 1/
New paper just out on how changing sociotechnical systems of knowledge production and access - platforms, the cloud, AI - pose profound challenges to educational practice and research doi.org/10.1080/0305...

Homo Sapiens emerged about 300,000 years ago.

Imagine you gave an early Sapiens $9,000. And they looked at you and said “the fuck is this?”

But anyway, you piled up $9,000 Every Single Day since the first Sapiens walked the Earth.

You still wouldn’t have a trillion dollars.

So…. race science is ok as long as it’s done by computers?

Younger me blithely thought we were moving past this. But now I see I’m gonna have to work on my fitness. Looks like I’ll be punching racists and fascists for the rest of my life.

LLMs just aren’t capable of producing anything anywhere near as good as “milquetoastify boringify language”.
Finally one thing they are, due to being statistical models of text, these neural networks and other large language models are indeed designed to do: milquetoastify boringify language.

LLMs steal and drain off human creativity originality verve by merely copying.

The use of artificial intelligence is leading to a flattening of our language that is evident in the emails we write and the texts we compose. Studies have already confirmed this. Robotic verbiage era...

At the Christian prayer breakfast this week, Attorney-General Michelle Rowland said that the “principles and values that Jesus lived by underpin the role of Australia’s first law officer” and claimed that “our values and faith” guide lawmakers. Read more: rationalist.com.au/australias-a...

The whole system should be nuked. For profit companies just won’t get people into work.

Increase unemployment benefits, no suspensions, no mutual obligations and a *government* employment service to help people get work.

It can’t possibly be any worse and we won’t be throwing money at grifters.
