Most discussions about “misinformation” treat the problem as if people simply don’t have good enough critical-thinking skills. It sounds intuitive, but it’s not entirely accurate. The problem isn’t just individual ignorance, it’s the structure of the information environment people are placed into.

Here's the reality this example illustrates:

It's not even just about people blindly trusting what ChatGPT tells them. LLMs are poisoning the entire information ecosystem. You can't even necessarily trust that the citations in a published paper are real (or a search engine's descriptions of them).

I am happy to pay $30 a year for USPS Prime, which delivers mail daily to my home
The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

If a person is Black, brown, trans, an immigrant, Muslim, etc & commits a crime, they call it proof of the depravity of the whole group they wish to demonize.

Yet a rich white man, pastor, cop commits a crime, & it's just one bad apple, despite actual evidence of systemic problems in those groups.
Fox & Friends and Pam Bondi are now sensationalizing specific instances of Somalis being charged with crimes in Minnesota to demonize the whole population

It is thought to contain more than half a million times the mass of the Sun in gas, and it hosts some of the most massive stars known.

this clip encapsulates so much of what has been wrong about MSM Trump coverage for the past decade -- treating Trump's lies and bigotry as a valid "side" of a debate instead of calling it out, because calling it out makes it seem as though you're biased

i'd go even further and say there is a reason even nixon kept this kind of stuff to himself. you would have to go back quite a bit to find a point at which is acceptable for a president to say anything like this *in public*, to say nothing of in the oval office.
I don’t want to be pollyannish about the past, but it was basically inconceivable twenty years ago that a president would say this publicly
Trump: "It’s a hellhole right now. And those Somalians should be out of here. They've destroyed our country. And all they do is complain, complain, complain. You have her. She’s always talking about the Constitution provides me with – go back to your own country and figure out your constitution."

May every single person in this be held accountable for the atrocities they're committing and enabling while they stand there & snicker at a racist diatribe straight from the president's mouth.

Immigrants are whole human beings with as much right to live full lives on this earth as anyone else.

I know it's too easy to grow numb to the constant flood of bigotry that comes out of his mouth but it does seem morally important you don't allow yourself or anyone else to become desensitized to this vile racism as a normal part of our politics

This is some truly hideous, dehumanizing language straight from the President's mouth. Yet another serious escalation in rhetoric, and at the risk of sounding like a broken record, we’ve seen where this leads. We cannot just continue on this path.

This, from the anti-vaccine, anti-medication administration.

Literally all signs point to them not caring at all about our health and in fact actively wanting tons of us to die.
