Some things I think about often: community care & mental health, justice, books & libraries, space, the way we tell our stories, equity, trees, music, rocks, the impact of Christian nationalism/evangelicalism, authenticity & sincerity, joy.

I watched the Nov. 11 auroras from the shores of a remote lake in Wyoming. I was alone on the beach, with the exception of dozens of little white rabbits. Their fur glowed green in the light. They just quietly watched the lights with me.

Here's the reality this example illustrates:

It's not even just about people blindly trusting what ChatGPT tells them. LLMs are poisoning the entire information ecosystem. You can't even necessarily trust that the citations in a published paper are real (or a search engine's descriptions of them).

If I recall correctly, they don't call the whole thing offensive, one of the instructors just says later in their feedback that calling an entire minoritized group of people "demonic" is offensive. They give a lot of other reasons for the grade she received that have nothing to do with that.

They address the reason for her grade in their feedback. I think I might've given her 5 or 10 points if I had been grading it (plus the same feedback they gave), but I'm curious if their comments to her have any impact on your analysis. I have no legal expertise and am genuinely interested.

If not, I was able to read them in this article. It's now paywalled for me, but it may still work for a first read for others.

Did you have an opportunity to read the feedback the student received from the 2 course instructors?

Jane Austen: I can’t stand any of you.

Her characters: but you…you made us up?

Jane Austen: yes, I was trying to improve humans. Turns out you can’t. Not even imaginary ones. The end.
